Nine projects set to generate 4 million carbon credits annually, aiding afforestation and improved forest management efforts. 🌳💼 On April 25, Carbon Registry Thailand (CRT) sealed agreements with owners of pioneering projects in South Papua, North Sulawesi, and South Sumatera, expecting to generate 4,081,725 carbon credits yearly. 🌍✒️ Bank of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives of Thailand accepted Carbon Credits as assets on Feb 7, 2024, valuing them at $80.00 per credit. This week, I was part of a panel at the @1BusinessWorld 2024 Climate & Sustainability Leadership Summit, where we discussed forest restoration and how @Terraformation is making it scalable. Forest restoration is the most powerful tool we have to pull carbon out of the air. Through our work with communities across five continents, we are kickstarting forest restoration projects that restore biodiverse ecosystems, create jobs, and generate new income streams. There is a huge opportunity for investors to support early-stage reforestation projects and secure high quality carbon credits. Restoring forests is accessible, and it’s time to rethink how we finance these projects and move towards a portfolio-based model. Each one of us is living through an extremely consequential era of human history. Our actions matter. It's now time to share. I have been working on the Urban Ocean Program this year but what it is about? Urban Ocean is a capacity-building and accelerator program to end ocean plastic pollution and build more resilient communities in cities. The program started back in 2020. It's implemented jointly by Ocean Conservancy, Resilient Cities Network, and The Circulate Initiative. Collaboration is key. Nine cities went through the program. We're supporting the third cohort of three cities including: 1. Santa Fe, Argentina 2. Salvador, Brazil 3. Bangkok, Thailand You know me, I grew up in Bangkok so this gives me hope. The city is serious about becoming a resilient city by reducing plastic waste. We did all the hard work and it's now the time. 📢 "Publicly funded institutions like the Asian Development Bank (ADB) must include robust coal exclusions in lenders' contracts to end coal finance for good," said Daniel Willis, finance campaigner at Recourse. Great to see this coverage from FRANCE 24 AFP of our expose, published yesterday by Inclusive Development International Trend Asia NGO Forum on ADB and Recourse, on how a $600 million ADB loan to promote "clean energy" could be funding the expansion of Southeast Asia's biggest coal complex. 🏭 Pollution from the Suralaya complex and other nearby coal plants kills an estimated 2,500 Indonesians per year and causes numerous health problems, including respiratory disease and cancer. These findings raise severe questions about the seriousness of the ADB's no-new-coal pledge, ahead of the Bank's AGM in Tbilisi next week (2-5 May). Experts in #UrbanDevelopment and climate finance have highlighted the need for better, more comprehensive monitoring and evaluation tools for #ClimateFinance accountability at the Second Roundtable Discussion for Urban Climate Finance, held October 10, 2024 in Quezon City. The discussion, held as part of a series under the Urban Climate Action for Low-Carbon and Resilient Cities (Urban-Act) Project, gathered stakeholders from national and local governments, civil society, private sector, the academe, and other development partners to discuss ways forward for sustainable urban development in the Philippines. #UrbanAct in the Philippines is a joint project led by ICSC and Clean Air Asia, with GIZ Philippines and Pacific Island Countries and the Department of the Interior and Local Government. Circular Economy for Everybody --- ADVANCED #recycling requires fantastic logistics because the process of returning used plastics for reuse is hefty and messy. MANUFACTURERS are the soul to the recovery of reusable packaging as they have the collection network all over to make #epr a low cost reality. IT concerns 'responsible consumption and production' (#sdg12) and 'partnership for the goals' (#sdg17) directly. COLLECTIVELY, it corresponds to the policies of #NIMP 2030 (New Industrial Master Plan), #NETR (National Energy Transition Roadmap) and #PIKAS 2030 (Public-Private Partnership Master Plan) championed by #malaysiamadani. THE end result to the society is a #microplastics (and #nanoplastics) clean environment, with minimal landfill problems of water leachate, methane gas, pungent odor and crows menace. #esg is about a holistic ecosystem where everybody contributes to a #circulareconomy leveraging on community forces of unity. COP29 is positioned as the 'finance COP'. While Singapore is not obligated under the Paris Agreement to provide funds for climate action, Singapore has committed US$500 million as concessional capital to support a blended finance initiative to combat and adapt to climate change in lower-income countries. This US$500 million serves as a catalyst to raise funds in commercial capital and other sources of finance to accelerate capital flows to support Asia green transition. #cop29 #cop29sgpavilion

A key focus of the COP29 climate talks in Baku, Azerbaijan in November is climate finance. A new global climate finance target is expected to be set this year to help address the needs and priorities of developing countries. Though among the world’s most climate-vulnerable areas, Southeast Asia receives only a small fraction of adaptation and mitigation financing. Access to climate finance is hampered by a lack of bankable projects, regulatory uncertainty, and limited data and knowledge. An integrated approach is needed to address policy gaps and align climate ambitions with sector and fiscal planning. In 2018–2019, climate finance flows to Southeast Asia amounted to just $27.8 billion or 5% of the nearly $520 billion tracked for Asia and the Pacific. According to the Climate Policy Initiative, the region requires up to $1.7 trillion annually until 2030 to meet climate targets, while early estimates of ADB put climate finance needs of Southeast Asian countries at $210 billion per year. However, these figures will likely be adjusted as countries scale up national climate action plans to tackle a worsening climate crisis and to transition to a green economy. I couldn't agree more with the statement of Naeeda of ADB that to gain access to more climate finance, Southeast Asian countries need to expand their policy and create an enabling environment for climate action. The #IFC has announced a partnership with the European Union under the Green Economy Programme for the Philippines (#GEPP) to boost private-sector participation in the country’s green transition. Launched in March 2024, the GEPP supports waste management, circular economy, renewable energy deployment, and energy efficiency technologies. Running until 2028 with a budget of Php 308 million (EUR 5.2 million), this initiative aims to create a resilient, green, and inclusive growth path for all Filipinos. The collaboration between the EU and IFC will mobilize private capital and investments to address climate challenges, with a focus on: 🌿 Enhancing plastics recycling and waste management 🌿 Catalyzing decarbonization investments 🌿 Greening supply chains 🌿 Accelerating the energy transition “The private sector plays a pivotal role in the collective journey towards a sustainable and prosperous future, and the EU is pleased to partner with IFC to promote green growth in the Philippines,” said H.E. ESAWAS regulators association in collaboration with UNICEF launched the Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) Regulatory Journeys in six countries which serves as a valuable resource for policymakers, regulators, service providers, service authorities and their development partners involved in urban sanitation to catalyse further progress in CWIS regulatory frameworks by providing actionable insights, outlining pathways for implementation, fostering regional collaboration, and encouraging the adoption of good practices that can lead to the realization of inclusive, safe and sustainable urban sanitation. The report examines the country specific sanitation regulatory journeys of Rwanda, Zambia, Uganda Tanzania, Kenya, and Burundi, aiming to illustrate the pathways through which urban sanitation has been transformed over the years.
