Built from the testimonies of Filipinos nationwide, the #BawalPlastikan Map was launched to showcase policies, initiatives, and best practices from local governments, private entities, and individuals committed to reducing the use of single-use plastics (SUPs). The project was made possible through a partnership between The Climate Reality Project Philippines and Philippine Business for Environmental Stewardship (PBEST), highlighting the power of collaboration in addressing environmental challenges. The #BawalPlastikan Map serves not only as a valuable resource for crafting evidence-based policies but also as a tool for advocates pushing for a nationwide ban on SUPs. By showcasing successful initiatives across the country, the map strengthens calls for systemic solutions to the plastic crisis. At #COP29, leaders committed to a $300 billion annual climate finance goal, but is it enough? Advocates argue it falls short of the trillions needed to effectively combat the climate crisis. We explore why this goal misses the mark and outlines steps to move forward in this week's #EleventhHour. Plastik Ka Ba? Kami Hindi—Dito, #BawalPlastikan! At the fifth meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee for a Global Plastics Treaty, nations, including the Philippines, came together to advocate for significant cuts in global plastic production. This aligns with a Greenpeace survey revealing that 94% of Filipinos support reducing plastic production, with 88% agreeing that the treaty should mandate a ban on single-use plastics (SUPs). Thanks to the contributions of our Climate Reality Leaders, followers, and fellow advocates, we’ve developed an interactive map highlighting local SUP bans and regulations along with inspiring zero-waste initiatives and programs across the country. This growing database showcases the readiness of Filipinos for a national single-use plastic ban while amplifying our collective call for a stronger global plastics treaty. Is your community among those saying no to SUPs? Share your story through our #BawalPlastikan initiative! ♻️ View the map: https://lnkd.in/g53AZrCi 📩 Submit entries: bit.ly/bawal_plastikan #PlasticFreeReality #LeadOnClimate #ClimateRealityPH

The $300 billion climate finance goal agreed at #COP29 is a step forward, but let's be clear: it's nowhere near enough. Vulnerable nations need trillions, not billions, to confront the climate crisis. It’s like being handed a garden hose to fight a climate inferno. As we set our sights on COP30, we must demand a substantial increase in funding, with a focus on concessional finance—affordable, long-term, low-cost resources that help vulnerable countries unlock more capital, expand fiscal space, and empower them to build resilience and transition to a low-carbon economy. This downpayment must evolve into a real, transformative investment in our collective future. In 2024, the Philippines found itself at the top of the World Risk Report amid the intensifying tropical cyclones, rising sea levels, and severe temperature fluctuations, posing an unprecedented threat to its people. This calls for a comprehensive roadmap to secure Filipinos a sustainable and livable future. In response, the Climate Change Commisison presented the first National Adaptation Plan and Nationally Determined Contribution Implementation Plan during the event “Climate Briefing 2024: Latest Science and Policies on Climate Change in the Philippines” last 28 November 2024. Joining the panel discussion was Ian Soqueño, the Energy Program Lead of The Climate Reality Project Philippines, who underscored the need for multistakeholder engagement in fostering country ownership of fit-for-purpose climate projects. He also emphasized the role of renewable energy in helping reduce carbon emissions and driving sustainable economic growth. #MurangKuryente #LeadOnClimate #ClimateRealityPH
