Wearing a gown made of sand was never going to be easy for Tyla — but she committed to the bit for the 2024 Met Gala.

The "Water" songstress, 22, wore the custom Balmain piece on the red carpet, and even though she had to be carried up the Met steps because she could hardly move in the gown, she loved the look.

"I just love the outfit and how everything turned out," Tyla told Vogue on the red carpet of her "out of the box" dress, crafted by Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing and his team.

However, the sculptural dress wasn't exactly functional beyond the photo moment on the carpet, and that meant something was going to have to change once Tyla went inside for the party. Even though we can only imagine how many hours were poured into creating the dress — a plaster body mold and organza train fully covered in three shades of sand mixed with crystal studs — Rousteing cut off the entire bottom half when the pair went inside.

Yes, you read that right — he turned her gown into a mini by lopping it off with a pair of scissors that were handed to him by Instagram fashion pro Eva Chen.

Rousteing shared the behind-the-scenes video of the moment on Instagram (which also revealed that Tyla went barefoot once inside the Met Museum), carefully cutting around her legs while she was still wearing the dress.

Plenty of onlookers gawked and cheered when Tyla's "second" (unofficial) look for the evening was revealed.

Earlier in the night, Rousteing told Vogue that the inspiration for Tyla's Met Gala dress was a "desire to redefine boundaries and transform a transient material into an everlasting masterpiece."

He added, “The idea of sculpting a garment from something as ephemeral as sand ignited my imagination and I could not be happier with the end result."
