Darren Criss and his wife, Mia Criss (née Swier), married in 2019, but the couple have been together since before he became a Hollywood star.

Darren rose to fame in 2010 as Blaine Anderson on Glee, and he has turned out a number of notable, award-winning performances since. He's starred on Broadway, voiced cartoon characters, released albums and earned Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG Awards for his portrayal of Andrew Cunanen in 2018's The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.

Needless to say, Darren has solidified his place in the limelight, and he credits Mia in large part for that.

"We have been the ultimate plus-ones out here for each other for 10 years," he told PEOPLE in April 2020. "My dreams and ambition have always been the driving force in my life. It was the gas in my tank. It almost consumed me. Some people were slighted by that, but Mia never was. I am so grateful for her — every day."

The couple welcomed their first child, daughter Bluesy Belle, in April 2022. Their second, son Brother László, arrived in June 2024.

So, who is Darren Criss' wife? Here's everything to know about Mia Criss and her relationship with the celebrated actor.

She met Darren in 2006

Darren met Mia through mutual friends in 2006, but they didn't start dating until four years later — around July 2010 — a few months before he first appeared on Glee.

"We've been together a long time," he said in a 2013 interview with KiSS 92.5 when asked about his then-girlfriend. "I didn't know I was going to be on TV when we started dating."

Though the American Crime Story star told PEOPLE in April 2020 that he "dragged his feet" when it came to getting engaged, he proposed to Mia after seven years of dating, around January 2018.

"Mia and I have had seven and a half years of fun, wacky, wonderful, CRAZY adventures together," he wrote on Instagram announcing the news. "And I'm happy to announce that we're kicking those adventures up a notch. We're going for it. To boldly go where neither of us have gone before. Engage. 🚀💍🖖."

Darren and Mia tied the knot on Feb. 16, 2019, in front of their friends in family in New Orleans. The star-studded guest list included fellow Glee alums Lea Michele, John Stamos, Chord Overstreet and Harry Shum Jr.

"That was one of the most incredible events of my entire life," Darren told PEOPLE in April 2020. "The most magical experience. Say what you will about the construct of marriage and tradition: weddings are amazing."

And married life has been equally amazing for the couple. "This feels right. Married. The idea of marriage was not something I gravitated to earlier in life," he said. "But, we were together for a long time before. By that point in our lives, it was a validation and sharing of our life and existence. In many ways, it's not been a change at all."

Darren and Mia announced they were expecting their first baby in October 2021 with an adorable music-themed photoshoot and a video revealing their baby's heartbeat.

"We've been making music for years.⁣⁣…" Darren wrote on Instagram. "But this time we made a BEAT.⁣⁣ The ultimate collab droppin' Spring 2022."

On April 11, 2022, baby Bluesy Belle arrived. "M & D made some sweet music," Darren captioned an Instagram photo of the couple gazing lovingly at their daughter in the hospital. "⁣Bluesy Belle Criss⁣ 4/11/22⁣ Out now."

In December 2023, they announced they were expanding their family again with a photoshopped Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again poster. Darren put his face over Meryl Streep's, his wife's over Amanda Seyfried's and his daughter over Lily James', with two positive pregnancy tests on top of it.

"And COMING SOON…," he wrote in the caption. "let’s hope the sequel is better than the photoshop✌️🤪 ‼️."

Brother László arrived on June 3, 2024.

"M & D just delivered their follow-up single. And yes his first name is Brother," Criss wrote on Instagram alongside an image of his smiley newborn son.

Darren and Mia went into business together in 2018, opening a trendy show tunes piano bar in Hollywood called Tramp Stamp Granny's.

"There's a great white space for it, because a lot of the folks we love here are New York transplants or theater people or just fun-loving L.A. artist types," Darren told Time Out in 2018. "Singing by the piano is either something you love, or something you didn't realize you love and just never had access to it."

The theater-loving couple even held a musical theater album Grammy party at the hotspot in 2020.

She's a freelance director, writer and producer

Mia works in the entertainment industry like her hubby, but on the other side of the camera. She got her start as a production assistant for White Cherry Entertainment, working on live events like the Super Bowl, Tony Awards, Daytime Emmy Awards and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

As her career progressed, she spent time as an associate producer at Showtime with involvement on shows such as Dexter, Homeland and Shameless. She later worked as a writer and producer at Fox Broadcasting Company before starting her own production company, Von Glitz Productions, in October 2012.

According to her LinkedIn, her focus is on "creating artistic content with a purpose and strong message."

Mia and Michele met through Darren, but they've built a friendship of their own over the years. Michele was asked to perform at Darren and Mia's 2019 wedding and turned to the producer for advice when planning her own nuptials.

"[Mia and I have] known each other for so many years now. It's just been great to have another bride that's going through this process," Michele told Brides. "Just being like, 'What did you do for this?' 'What did you try for that?' because it is a lot of information to funnel through."

She's an NYU graduate

After graduating, she continued her education at the New York Film Academy.

Mia's tried her hand at many different types of projects, including directing Keke Palmer's 2015 music video for "I Don't Belong to You."

The artistic black-and-white video was shot on location in New Orleans.

Mia was the bassist and vocalist of an alt-punk rock band called Shoot the Freak until they officially broke up in 2012. The group's EP was called Hell on Heels, and Mia even shot the photos for the album. She is also part of an all-female Guns N' Roses tribute band called Guns N' Hoses.

Though the band told The Village Voice in 2013 that they started as "party joke," they've grown into a touring show. Mia even performed with them in October 2021 with her baby bump on display, and she still remains part of the rotating ensemble.

Mia also does some singing with her hubby and his friends. In 2019 she did an Instagram Live with Darren, Dianna Agron and Overstreet, where she belted out 4 Non Blondes' iconic hit "What's Up?"
