Entertainment TV Scripted TV Shows The Cast of Boy Meets World: Where Are They Now? See what the stars of the TGIF favorite have been up to since the show premiered on Sept. 24, 1993 By Kate Hogan Kate Hogan Kate Hogan is Director of Digital Specials and Features at PEOPLE, as well as the editor of Stories to Make You Smile. Photo: ABC Photo Archives/Disney via Getty Images For many TGIF viewers, stepping into the Matthews family home every Friday night felt like hanging out with your next-door neighbors — a busy household with highs, lows and the usual teen drama. That feeling carried the beloved sitcom Boy Meets World through seven seasons on TV (plus the Disney Channel spinoff Girl Meets World, starring "Espresso" singer Sabrina Carpenter) and a continued love for the cast since it wrapped on May 5, 2020. Some of its stars have also dished on the rewatch podcast Pod Meets World, sharing fond (and not-so-fond) memories of their time working on the ABC series. In 2024, many of the show's stars reunited during a panel at 90s Con in Connecticut. While there, Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong and Will Friedle — who co-hosts the Pod Meets World podcast — also announced a documentary project. Fishel explained that while they "have this footage of us on the show" they "don't have a ton of behind-the-scenes footage." "We have some, but not a lot. And [Rider] said, 'I think there's going to be a time whether it's in five years, 10 years or another 30 years where we're going to look back on the experience that we're all having now and wish we could relive it and experience it again,' " Fishel said. "So, we have a little film crew who has been interviewing fans at our live shows who's here with us this weekend. And, you know, went to dinner with all of us last night." Fishel added, "Even if we never air it anywhere, it's just for us. But yeah, we're really excited about it." In honor of the show's 31st anniversary on Sept. 24, see what Cory, Shawn, Topanga and the rest of the Boy Meets World cast are up to now. ABC Photo Archives/Getty Images As the titular boy in Boy Meets World, Ben Savage played the spunky, baseball-loving Cory Matthews, a well-meaning kid who sometimes found himself in sticky situations. Since then, Ben — younger brother to embattled actor and The Wonder Years star Fred Savage — has made TV cameos on everything from the CBS procedural Criminal Minds to Hallmark's interfaith 2020 holiday movie Love, Lights, Hanukkah! He also reprised his role as the adult version of Cory for the 2014 reboot Girl Meets World. In February 2023, he and Tessa Angermeier tied the knot in Los Angeles, shortly after announcing their engagement in January and Ben filing paperwork to run for Congress in California. ABC Photo Archives/Getty Images Fishel played Topanga Lawrence, Cory's earthy friend-turned-forever love for all seven seasons, with the series finale airing on her 19th birthday in 2000. At 90s Con in 2022, however, the actress revealed her story wasn't supposed to go that way at all. "It was only supposed to be, I think, one episode — possibly a recurring — and then she basically became the rest of the show," Fishel said. Cory and Topanga ultimately married, and their family life was explored across the three seasons of Girl Meets World, with Fishel and Ben reprising their roles. On an August 2024 episode of Pod Meets World, the actress revealed she had been diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer called ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). "So I would like to share something with our listeners … I was recently diagnosed with DCIS which is a form of breast cancer," she said. Fishel continued, "It is very, very, very early. It's technically stage zero. I was diagnosed with high-grade DCIS with micro invasion. And I'm going to be fine. I'm having surgery to remove it." She added that she is also having "some follow-up treatment." Fishel is mom to two young sons with her husband, Jensen Karp, whom she married in 2018. Karp posted on Instagram Stories in support of his wife after she shared her story. "I'm so proud of @daniellefishel for using her platform to raise awareness," he wrote. "We can’t miss appointments and we need to get checked! She's the strongest person I've ever met. She's got this." Rider Strong as Shawn Hunter Left: Portrait of Rider Strong for 'Boy Meets World' in the 1990s; Right: Rider Strong attends the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. ABC Photo Archives/Getty Images Strong played Cory's charming but somewhat troublesome bestie, Shawn Hunter. After the series wrapped, the actor continued working steadily in TV and, like many of his costars, made cameos on Girl Meets World. "It's so cheesy, but it really does feel like family," Strong told PEOPLE in 2021 of the cast's continued closeness. "We're all connected in this way no one else in our life understands. We only have each other to rely on about certain things and memories. So I just love them." He added, "I'm so happy that everybody is happy in their lives, for the most part, and we're all supporting one another." Strong wed actress Alexandra Barreto on Oct. 20, 2013 (the same weekend former costar Fishel married ex-husband Tim Belusko.) and, in 2015, welcomed son Indigo. Will Friedle as Eric Matthews Left: Portrait of Will Friedle for 'Boy Meets World' in the 1990s; Right: Will Friedle attends the 2022 iHeartRadio Music Festival. ABC Photo Archives/Getty Images As Cory's spacey, swoon-worthy big brother Eric, Friedle brought the laughs and, sometimes, the older child wisdom. However, he almost didn't get the part. In a 2022 chat with Entertainment Tonight, he revealed an illness forced him to miss the audition, and it was only after the original actor was deemed too short that he scored the role. In the years after the series, Friedle pivoted to voice work, racking up endless credits in animated films and shows. "What brought me to voice-over was anxiety," Friedle explained in 2018, per Entertainment Weekly. "I was planning to do more on-camera work, but then I got hit with these anxiety attacks that prevented me from doing that. I was so thankful I had voice-over because I could still perform and act ... Voice-over is great." The actor has been married to Susan Martens since 2016. Trina McGee as Angela Moore Left: Portrait of Trina McGee for 'Boy Meets World' in the 1990s; Right: Trina McGee attends the trophy celebration benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation on Feb. 11, 2018, in L.A. ABC Photo Archives/Paul Archuleta via Getty Images After working on several TV series throughout the early '90s, Trina McGee joined the Boy Meets World cast in 1997 as Shawn's love interest, Angela Moore. In early 2020, the actress posted about the racism she faced on set on X (formerly Twitter). "Called aunt Jemima on set during hair and make up. Called a bitter bitch when I quietly waited for my scene to finish rehearsing that was being f'ed up over and over due to episode featuring my character. Told 'it was nice of you to join us' like a stranger after 60 episodes." McGee later revealed that Friedle had used the derogatory Aunt Jemima phrase and Fishel had "decided to be really tight and not talk," but both actors later apologized to her for their actions. McGee, who is also a married mother, frequently posts on Instagram about her Boy Meets World days and reunited with several castmates for 90s Con Tampa in September 2023 and April 2023's Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo, which coincided with costar William Daniels' 96th birthday. Matthew Lawrence as Jack Hunter Left: Portrait of Matthew Lawrence for 'Boy Meets World' in the 1990s; Right: Matthew Lawrence attends the premiere of Red Compass Media's 'The Lost Tree' at Laemmle NoHo 7 on March 18, 2016, in North Hollywood, Calif. ABC Photo Archives/Barry King/WireImage via Getty Images Matthew Lawrence also joined the cast in 1997 as Shawn's half-brother and Eric's college roommate, Jack Hunter. Already at heartthrob status when he appeared on Boy Meets World, thanks to projects like Mrs. Doubtfire, he continued his work on TV and in film after the series ended, including appearing in the 2021 holiday movie Mistletoe Mixup with his famous brothers. Matthew finalized his divorce from Dancing with the Stars pro Cheryl Burke in 2022 and has been dating singer and TLC member Chilli (a.k.a. Rozonda Thomas) ever since. In addition to developing new TV projects with his siblings, Matthew also hosts the weekly Brotherly Love Podcast with Joey and Andrew. Anthony Tyler Quinn as Mr. Turner Left: Portrait of Anthony Tyler Quinn for 'Boy Meets World' in the 1990s; Right: Anthony Tyler Quinn posing on the set of 'Girl Meets World' in 2015. ABC Photo Archives/Ron Tom/DISNEY CHANNEL via Getty Images From 1994 on, Cory, Shawn and Topanga's motorcycle-riding teacher, Mr. Turner — played by Anthony Tyler Quinn — was their North Star. Quinn has been acting since the 1980s and has done more work on the small screen following the series' end. However, he told HuffPost in 2012 that Boy Meets World is still a role he's recognized for. "What amazes me about this show is that people are always coming up to me and not only telling me how much they love the show, but how much the show means to them, and how much my character means to them," Quinn said. "Even my daughter has people all the time that geek out and say, 'Your dad was the teacher on Boy Meets World? I love that guy!' " He was among the stars to join McGee and Daniels in Tampa, Fla., for the September 2023 90s Con. Betsy Randle as Amy Matthews Left: Betsy Randle for 'Boy Meets World' in the 1990s; Right: Betsy Randle attends the premiere of Lionsgate's "Dirty 30" at ArcLight Hollywood on Sept. 20, 2016, in Hollywood, Calif. ABC Photo Archives/Leon Bennett/WireImage via Getty Images Betsy Randle had a handful of TV roles under her belt before joining Boy Meets World as the Matthews family matriarch, Amy. She picked up several roles after, including a spot on Girl Meets World and four episodes of Charmed. Randle appeared on the Pod Meets World podcast in September 2022, discussing her character's place on the series, which focused heavily on the father-son dynamics between Cory, Eric and their dad, Alan. Randle was also among the stars at the September 2023 cast reunion in Tampa, Fla. William Russ as Alan Matthews Left: Portrait of William Russ for 'Boy Meets World' in the 1990s; Right: William Russ outside of Hugo's Restaurant after at the opening night gala of David Mamet's play 'Glengarry Glen Ross' on April 17, 2008, at the Macha Theater in West Hollywood, Calif. ABC Photo Archives/Tiffany Rose via Getty Images Speaking of fathers and sons, William Russ played Alan Matthews, the devoted dad of Cory, Eric and their little sister Morgan. His career to that point had consisted of many dramas, and after Boy Meets World, he returned to that route with appearances on shows like NCIS, Scandal, 9-1-1 and Criminal Minds. Russ is married to actress Clare Wren, with whom he shares two children. Lindsay Ridgeway as Morgan Matthews Left: Portrait of Lindsay Ridgeway for 'Boy Meets World' in the 1990s; Right: Lindsay Ridgeway performs the National Anthem at the New York Jets vs. San Fransisco 49ers game at Levi's Stadium on Dec. 11, 2016, in Santa Clara, Calif. ABC Photo Archives/Al Pereira/GC Images via Getty Images Lindsay Ridgeway joined the show in 1996, replacing the original actress who'd played Morgan, Lily Gibson. "I think there were some issues that had to do with growing up," Russ said on a 2022 episode of Pod Meets World (via Variety). "I'm not sure she was very happy at the time and [series creator] Michael Jacobs, to his credit, could see that. He decided what was best personally for her was to let her try something else, go somewhere else." Ridgeway appeared on a 2017 episode of Girl Meets World, though she hasn't acted much since. William Daniels as Mr. Feeny Left: Portrait of William Daniels for 'Boy Meets World' in the 1990s; Right: William Daniels signs copies of 'There I Go Again: How I Came to Be Mr. Feeny, John Adams, Dr. Craig, KITT and Many Others' at Strand Bookstore on March 2, 2017, in N.Y.C. ABC Photo Archives/Cindy Ord via Getty Images Daniels had endless theater and acting credits (1776! St. Elsewhere! Knight Rider!) and two Emmy Awards to his name when he signed on to Boy Meets World as teacher-turned-principal (and wise Matthews family neighbor) Mr. Feeny. In his memoir, There I Go Again: How I Came to Be Mr. Feeny, John Adams, Dr. Craig, KITT, & Many Others, Daniels explained why he almost left the show and what finally convinced him to stay. "At a meeting with the show's author and executive producer, Michael Jacobs, already an established playwright and sitcom creator, as well as movie producer, I told him I didn't want to play a high school teacher who's made to look foolish for the sake of some cheap laughs," Daniels wrote in the book. "I had too much respect for the underpaid, under-appreciated teachers of this country to portray one of them a fool." After the cast's first table read, Daniels was unhappy with his storyline and went to Jacob's office to quit the show. It was only until Jacobs reworked the script that Daniels decided to get back on board. Daniels attended 90s Con in Tampa in September 2023 with his wife, Bonnie Bartlett, whom he married in 1951 and shares two sons Michael and Robert. Daniels celebrated his 97th birthday with his wife and family in April 2024 before reuniting with some of the Boy Meets World cast members a couple of months later in June. "Just a little reunion with my favorite students!!" Daniels posted on X (formerly Twitter) alongside photos of Fishel, Strong and Friedle. Close
