Lifestyle Holiday Halloween People Style Editors Pull Together Last Minute Halloween Costumes from Their Closets Check out how we're morphing into a Brat, a DunKing, a model mom-to-be and a pop star covered in face gems By Jackie Fields Jackie Fields Jackie Fields is a Deputy Beauty Director at PEOPLE. She has been working at the brand since 2005 and has 17 years reporting and writing, and eight years editing style and beauty content for the brand. People Editorial Guidelines Published on October 25, 2024 03:44PM EDT Comments PEOPLE Style Team Members Dress up as Ben Affleck, Hailey Bieber and more stars. In a year that gave us everything from a Beetlejuice sequel and a Wicked debut to Moo Deng and French pole vaulter, there are an abundance of persons, places and things to dress up as on Halloween. But this Oct. 31, the PEOPLE Style team has decided the most stylish moments we're copying are Ben Affleck's turn as a boybander, Charli xcx's unapologetic aura, Hailey Bieber's pregnancy style and Taylor Swift's glow (courtesy of glitter freckles). Even better, our editors shopped their own closets (yes, someone on our team previously bought the DunKing's track suit) to imitate these unforgettable events. As long as you've got some hot pink-tinted sunglasses, or neon green eye shadow, or '90s-inspired sunglasses or some face jewels, you too can be costume-ready in minutes. What: A DunKing Jackie Fields, Deputy Beauty Director; Ben Affleck in Dunkin's Super Bowl 2024 Commercial. Who: Jackie Fields, Deputy Beauty Director Why: On the night of Super Bowl LVIII, it was unusually quiet in Boston. (Do NOT get me started on the state of football in New England.) Then, the patron saints of Cambridge, Mass. — Ben Affleck and Matt Damon — with an assist by none other than Tom “Touchdown Tommy” Brady on the keyboard (to be clear: TB12 is from California, but is an unofficial Bostonian after playing 20 seasons with the Patriots) put Beantown back on the map on the most important night in football with their epic DunKings commercial. The boy, nay, man band sported matching Dunkin’ orange, pink and white-hued tracksuits as they laid their track. 15 Photos of Ben Affleck Enjoying Dunkin' Coffee Days later, merch emerged, and this proud Masshole got her hands on the consumer version of the aforementioned uniform. If you can’t cop a suit (Dunkin’s immediately sold out, but it smahtly created a Halloween version) then scoop up a hot pink turtleneck, fuzzy bucket hat and matching pink-tinted sunglasses, or, puncture a few munchkins with a Dunkin' straw, hold it up high, and repeat Affleck’s wise words: “Underestimate Boston? At your peril.” What: The Ultimate Brat Michelle Lee, Editorial Assistant; Charli xcx on Instagram. Charli XCX/Instagram Who: Michelle Lee, Editorial Assistant Why: “Brat, brat, brat” was all I heard this summer with the hugely popular debut of Chari xcx’s album. Brat followed me everywhere and to no one’s surprise, I eventually succumbed to doing the famous — and shall I add celeb-loved— “Apple” dance whenever I heard the song. So I figured, even though Charli xcx has declared Brat summer over, why not pay homage to an aesthetic I related to so much, I was splitting the apple down the symmetrical lines anytime the beat dropped? (If you know, you know.) What Is 'Brat Summer?' Everything You Need to Know About the Charli XCX-Inspired Neon Green Trend Being a Brat (or do I say, giving Brat?) means wearing your best white tank, heavy eyeliner and all the green you can find. All of this couldn’t be more anti-me, but I took on the challenge. I grabbed a tank, then focused on my makeup. I kept my coverage pretty minimal using the Well People Supernatural Complexion Foundation + Concealer Stick and fluffed up my eyebrows using Glossier’s Boy Brow. Then I amped up the drama with Pat McGrath Labs PermaGel eyeliner. Lastly, I used the shimmery green eyeshadow in Too Faced’s Appley In Love palette for the ultimate bratty touch. What: Mom-to-Be Hailey Bieber Catherine Santino, Writer-Reporter; Hailey Bieber in N.Y.C. on June 23. Catherine Santino; Gotham/GC Images Who: Catherine Santino, Writer-Reporter Why: Hailey Bieber has been serving up style and beauty inspo for years, but after announcing she was expecting her first child with husband Justin Bieber in May, something about her look leveled up. The pregnancy glow, the bump, the joy of impending motherhood were all working in her favor and making her appear extra radiant all over. She's continued to rock her signature staples (The slicked back bun! The tiny sunglasses! The glazed skin!) but coupled with her adorable bump, Hailey's 2024 style has been a pillar of this year’s trends. For a simple yet chic Halloween costume, I decided to channel Hailey's trademark look plus add a fake baby bump for extra timeliness. Hailey Bieber Dropped Rhode's First-Ever Blush — and It’s the Formula of My Dreams Obviously, I utilized a slew of Rhode products for my skincare and makeup. I started with the Barrier Restore Cream for a super hydrated base before moving on to the Tower28 Swipe Serum Concealer. For some warmth and color I added Rhode Pocket Blush in the shade Toasted Teddy. Then, I lined my lips with Alamar Cosmetics Lip Liner in Bombon and added a generous layer of Rhode Peptide Lip Tint in Espresso. I slicked back my hair and threw on a pair of shorts, an oversized blazer and '90s-inspired sunnies and voila, I was ready for my selfie. What: Taylor Swift's Chiefs Glam Brittany Talarico, Deputy Style Director; Taylor Swift at a Kansas City Chief's Game Oct. 7. Getty Who: Brittany Talarico, Deputy Style Director Why: I'm so worried about getting my kids Halloween costumes together, that I never fully have time to map out my own. But thanks to the overflowing well of inspiration that is Taylor Swift (from the stage to the Chiefs sidelines!), I pulled together a low-lift look that will still have me feeling festive when I'm out trick-or-treating with toddlers. The star? Swift's glitter freckles. I have to say her WAG era might be my favorite era (maybe that's because it's my job to document every single thing she wears for her NFL cameos), and when she attended boyfriend Travis Kelce's Chiefs game on Oct. 7, with a smattering of glitter freckles from Fazit Beauty, I immediately became nostalgic for middle school dances. I also immediately ordered my own set. Taylor Swift Brought Major Y2K Vibes to Kansas City Chiefs Game with $16 DIY Glitter Freckles The sparkly face tattoo combined with a bold red lip (I'm loving the hydration and lasting power of Revlon's ColorStay Limitless Matte Liquid Lipstick in shade Top Talent) and bouncy ponytail takes 60 seconds to create and voila!...I'm back to begging my daughter to wear the fairy wings that she begged me to buy. To really honor Tay, maybe I'll even sip on a vodka cran on the couch after all the festivities, as I "check" (and eat) my kids candy. What: Palm Royale Member Andrea Lavinthal, Style and Beauty Director; Kristen Wiig in Palm Royale. Andrea Lavinthal; Apple TV+ Who: Andrea Lavinthal, Style and Beauty Director Why: Something very unexpected happened when we moved to the suburbs. In addition to secretly enjoying driving my three-row SUV to Costco (who doesn't want a double pack of 21-ounce jars of pimento olives?!), I now attend theme parties. Like, monthly. Maybe it's from inhaling all that "chemical-free" pesticide they use on the lawns here, but people love nothing more than to wear a costume. So much so, in fact, I now have a "dress up" bin filled with everything from cowboy hats and bandanas (recently worn to a "Saddle Up" summer BBQ) to bow ties and arm band garters (for a speakeasy night at our friend's house). Palm Royale Review: Carol Burnett Brings Her Signature Slapstick Comedy to Palm Beach But even though I own most of Amazon's costume section by now, my favorite looks are the ones I can pull from my own closet. This Palm Royale-inspired ensemble features a tropical print dress that has a similar vibe to the bright styles Kristin Wiig wears on the show (which if you haven't watched, it's about high society in Palm Beach in 1969), with an Hermes scarf, platform shoes and shell-embellished bag. If only I had remembered that I have a pair of white sunglasses in my dress up bin from the Barbie look I wore to a husband and wife golf tournament last year. Close
