Kody Brown believes everything happens for a reason.

On Sunday's Sister Wives: Look Back special, the plural family patriarch reflected on his relationship with Meri Brown. Unlike his relationships with Christine Brown, Janelle Brown, and Robyn Brown, the pair had just one child together — 25-year-old Leon Brown.

Part of the look back highlighted Meri's fertility struggles, with her and Kody trying over the years to have subsequent children. A clip from a 2012 episode played where Meri expressed hesitance at the idea of another round of IVF.

“It just freaks me out to go through that again. I want to have another baby. I would love that," Meri said in the flashback, with Kody on the same page. He added, "When we're dying when we're 110, we'll look back and we'll be glad we did the IVF."

Reflecting on the time, Kody expressed his relief that they didn't have another child, explaining, "During that time, it was more realization that our marriage is not really healthy."

"Retrospectively, I’m really glad we didn’t have more children,” Kody later said more firmly. "It wouldn’t have been good for the child because Meri and I weren't healthy then."

Meri also felt similarly about the time, noting, "I really wanted to have more than just one."

She went on to point out it took five years to conceive and welcome Leon, revealing that at that period of their marriage, "Kody and I were in a slightly tumultuous time."

Janelle and Kody have six children together — Savanah, 18, Gabriel, Garrison, 24, Hunter, 25, Maddie, 27, and Logan, 28. He and Christine share Truely, 12, Ysabel, 19, Gwendlyn, 21, Paedon, 24, Mykelti, 26, and Aspyn, 27. Kody and Robyn are parents to Ariella, 6, Solomon, 11, Breanna, 18, Aurora, 20, and Dayton, 22, with Kody adopting the older three when Robyn entered the plural marriage.

Three of Kody's marriages imploded within 14 months. Christine was the first to leave in November 2021. A year later in December 2022, it was revealed that he had separated from Janelle. A month after that, his broken union with Meri was confirmed in January after they'd been platonic and distant for years. Robyn is his only remaining wife.
