Sheinelle Jones is sharing some early details about her upcoming book.

Speaking with PEOPLE after celebrating fellow Today show host Al Roker’s 70th birthday on Tuesday, Aug. 20, Jones, 46, spoke about how the idea for her forthcoming book, Through Mom’s Eyes, initially came about. The book, which will be published next year by G.P. Putnam’s Sons, is based on a segment that Jones hosts on the news program.

“I do a series on the show, it's called Through Mom's Eyes, where I interview moms of people we admire, from Steph Curry to Shaq[uille O’Neal], Lady Gaga, Lin-Manuel Miranda, you name it,” Jones says. “And I noticed after interviewing about 20 of them that I was taking all of these jewels and applying it to myself for my own kids, calling my girlfriends and being like, ‘Can I tell you how Steph Curry's mom got him to do his chores?’”

“And then I finally realized maybe I should share the wisdom,” she continues. “And so I sat down and I thought, you know what? Let me see if I can write about what I've learned. And it has been one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done.”

Jones says that she picked around 15 stories to share for the book, in hopes of relaying that there’s “no template” for raising happy kids and that “motherhood doesn’t stop.”

But writing Through Mom’s Eyes, which is "part parenting guide, part insight into the rich and famous and all heart," per its description, was also a learning experience for Jones.

“Even while I was writing this, there were times that were really tough and I would be writing a chapter with Lucille O'Neal, Shaq's mom, and she talked about alcoholism, and I'm going through my own thing and I'm like, ‘You know what? She was able to push through that and motherhood didn't stop,’” Jone says.

“And so I think you'll find a thread at the end of this book. I hope it's inspiring,” Jones adds. “I hope people laugh a little bit. They may shed a tear or two, but ultimately it's my love letter to moms.”

Jones, who joined the Today show in 2014, is the mother to three children: Kayin, 14, and twins Uche and Clara, 12. In 2023, she told PEOPLE about advice she received from Maria Shriver about balancing work and family.

"She came to me and she was like, 'You are doing too much. I know you want to be all you can at work," Jones said. "Something has to give, and it's okay."

Through Mom’s Eyes will be published on April 15, 2025 and is now available for preorder, wherever books are sold.
