A Bar Manager, Best Friends and Sister: Remembering the Victims of the Maine Mass Shootings

Eighteen people were killed and 13 were injured in Wednesday night's mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine, Maine Governor Janet Mills confirmed.

Authorities said the first call about the violence came at 6:56 p.m. reporting a shooting at Just-In-Time Recreation, a bowling alley. At 7:08 p.m., a call came in about a shooting at Schemengees Bar and Grille, about four miles away.

Seven people were killed at Just-In-Time Recreation. At Schemengees, seven people were killed inside and one was killed outside the bar. Three victims died in the hospital, say authorities.

The suspected gunman, Robert Card, 40, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound three days later.

“I know that the people of Lewiston are enduring immeasurable pain," Governor Mills said during a press conference. "I wish I could take that pain from you, but I promise you this, we will all help you carry this grief."

During an Oct. 27 press conference, authorities confirmed the names and ages of all 18 victims. Here's everything we know:

Bill and Aaron Young

Bill Young, 44, and his son, 14-year-old Aaron Young, were killed at Just-In-Time Recreation, Bill's brother Rob Young told Reuters. Rob told the outlet that the father and son were in a bowling league together.

“Bill was a man dedicated to his family,” his cousin, Kim McConville, told The Associated Press.

"Bill was a hardworking man who was all about his family," a verified GoFundMe set up for the Young family reads. "He was always trying to make people laugh and always enjoyed life to the fullest. If anyone ever needed anything, Bill and his wife were the first to lend a hand."

"Aaron was a sophomore in high school who enjoyed doing anything his father was doing, watching Family Guy, and bowling," the GoFundMe adds. "He really was a gentile and thoughtful kid."

Steve Vozzella

Numerous online tributes poured in for Steve Vozzella, 45, who was a prominent member of the deaf community, according to social media posts.

A GoFundMe was created to help aid Vozzella's family.

"Steve was a beloved husband, father and member of Maine’s Deaf community," the fundraiser reads, adding that he worked for the United States Postal Service for more than 20 years.

"Steve loved playing cornhole with his friends," the GoFundMe continues. "He was a hardworking man who loved his family and animals."

According to his Facebook page, Vozzella would have celebrated his one-year wedding anniversary with his wife next month.

His brother, Nick Vozzella, told ABC News that his brother was playing cornhole with a group of people in the deaf community on Wednesday night when the attack occurred.

Billy Brackett

Billy Brackett, 48, was playing cornhole at Schemengees Bar and Grill, his father told ABC News.

In a GoFundMe created to support Brackett's family, he is described as "a gentle soul."

"Billy was a son, a husband, a father, a uncle and a friend to many especially in the deaf community he loved so much," the GoFundMe reads. "He loved darts, and has been competing for years, he loved cornhole, enjoyed fishing and hunting."

He leaves behind his wife and 2-year-old daughter, according to the fundraiser.

"Thank you to all of you who were praying, unfortunately Billy did not make it. Such devastation, for so many families," Kim Phillips, who identified Brackett as her niece’s brother-in-law, wrote on Facebook.

Joshua Seal

Joshua Seal, 36, was another member of the deaf community.

Elizabeth Seal, who identified herself on Facebook as Joshua Seal's wife, called Joshua the best father to their four children and a "wonderful husband, my best friend, and my soulmate. He was also a wonderful boss, an incredible interpreter, a great friend, a loving son, brother, uncle, and grandson. He loved his family and always put them first."

Joshua was the Director of Interpreting Services at Pine Tree Society.

"He was a husband, a father of four and a tireless advocate for the Deaf community," the society wrote in a statement. "He was committed to creating safe space for Deaf people."

Bryan MacFarlane 

Bryan MacFarlane's sister, Keri Brooks, told CNN that MacFarlane, 40 — who was also part of the deaf community — was participating in a cornhole tournament with his friends at Schemengees Bar and Grille when the violence began.

“I grew up in Maine and the deaf community is a tight-knit community,” Brooks told CNN. “Not only was my brother slain, but my friends were too.”

Brooks told the outlet that MacFarlane enjoyed motorcycle riding and being with his dog. A GoFundMe has been created for MacFarlane's family.

"Bryan was a proud member of the deaf community and was one of the people shot and killed at Schemengees Bar and Grille, unable to hear the danger that came his way," the fundraiser reads.

MacFarlane was also the first deaf person in Vermont to get his commercial drivers license, according to the GoFundMe.

Joseph Walker

Schemengees Bar and Grille Restaurant manager Joseph Walker, 56, was working – and lost his life trying to stop the gunman — his father, Leroy Walker, told Lester Holt of NBC Nightly News.

“Joe was a great, great son, a loving husband,” Leroy told MSNBC’s Ana Cabrera. “He had two grandchildren and a stepson... thousands of people loved him,”

"Joseph Walker was the most genuine guy I’ve ever met and got the privilege to know," one Facebook user wrote. Adding that he, "made an impact on every single person he came across. Not just an impact but SUCH a positive one."

A GoFundMe has been created for Joseph's family.

Ron Morin

Ron Morin, 55, was at Schemengees Bar and Grille on Wednesday night, CNN reports.

"Ron (Ronnie) Morin had such an infectious personality," a GoFundMe created by Morin's sister, Tanya Morissette, reads. "He was an incredible husband, father, brother, uncle, son, and friend. To know Ron, was to instantly love him. He was a man who always put others before himself and looked for the humor and positivity in even the most tragic circumstances."

"It's incomprehensible that someone who radiated so much light and positivity could be taken from us in such a tragic way," a Facebook tribute to Morin reads.

Peyton Brewer-Ross 

Peyton Brewer-Ross, 40, was a new father, according to the Union Pipefitters Facebook page. The post reads in part, "Peyton Brewer Ross new father and good guy. Pipefitter on my crew and the nicest guy."

According to a GoFundMe, Brewer-Ross leaves behind his partner Rachel and their 2-year-old daughter.

"Peyton was doing one of the things he thought was so much fun - tossing around bean bags," the fundraiser reads. "He was playing cornhole with friends at Schemengees Bar and Grill when his life was cut short, way too short."

Tricia Asselin

Tricia Asselin, 53, died a hero trying to call for help during Wednesday's mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine, her sister told PEOPLE.

Bobbi-Lynn Nichols and her younger sister Tricia were bowling at Just-In-Time Recreation on Wednesday night.

Nichols says Asselin got shot as she pulled out her phone to call 911. 

Another Facebook user, Stacey Houser Carpenter, described Asselin as "one of the kindest, hard working, funny and amazing people."

“My sister was the most kind, most honest, most giving person you would ever meet,” Nichols says. “She would take her last penny and give it to you. She would raise money for people she didn't even know.”  

Asselin was an athlete who coached little league in Auburn, Maine, her mother Alicia Lachance, told PEOPLE. 

Bob Violette

Bob Violette, 76, was an avid bowler and a loving father and husband, his daughter-in-law Cassandra told the Sun Journal.

“He wouldn’t let you walk out the door without giving him a hug, and a kiss on the check. He was just there for everything,” she told the outlet.

Brandon Dubuc told WBZ-TV that Violette was teaching a youth bowling league at Just-In-Time Recreation when the shooting began.

"If he was there with those kids, he was protecting those kids," Dubuc told the outlet. "I have no doubt about that."

Lucille Violette

Lucille Violette, 73, was killed with her husband Bob Violette at Just-In-Time Recreation.

Tommy Conrad

Tommy Conrad, 34, was a manager at Just-In-Time Recreation, according to a GoFundMe created for his family.

"[Conrad] put his life in harm’s way to charge the gunman and save the children who were there," the GoFundMe reads. "He died a hero. Tommy was a serious person who was devoted to his job, his game and his young daughter, Caroline. He served in the Army, including tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, and on the night of the shooting his instincts kicked and he exemplified service before self."

He leaves behind a 9-year-old daughter, CNN reports.

Arthur Strout

Arthur Strout, 42, was playing pool at Schemengees Bar and Grille on Wednesday night, his father — who left the bar minutes before the shooting began — told CBS News.

"People loved him," Strout's father, Arthur Barnard, told WCVB. "They just loved him," Strout was a father of five, according to CBS News. A GoFundMe has been created for his family.

Michael Deslauriers II

"The loss of my brother leaves a gaping hole in our family," Vicki Deslauriers Roy, who identified herself online as Michael Deslauriers II's sister, wrote on Facebook. "My brother was incredibly selfless, almost to a fault."

Adding later in the tribute: "I was not the least bit surprised to hear that he and his best friend since kindergarten lost their lives trying to protect others. I take comfort in knowing that they went together."

His father confirmed his death, CBS News reports. He was 51.

Jason Walker

"Last night these two men made the ultimate sacrifice," a Facebook user wrote with a photo appearing to be Jason Walker and Deslauriers. "They made sure their wives were safe and the children around them. Then they tried to stop the gunman that entered Sparetime in Lewiston. Jason Walker and Mike Deslauriers II were childhood friends since kindergarten. They are the embodiment of true [heroes.]" 

Walker was 51.

Maxx Hathaway

Kelsay Hathaway, who identified herself as Maxx Hathaway's sister in a GoFundMe, confirmed the 35-year-old's death and described her brother as "a goofy, down to earth person" who "loved to joke around and always had an uplifting attitude no matter what was going on."

"He loved anime, gaming and loved to play pool," she added.

According to the GoFundMe, Maxx's wife, Brenda, is pregnant with their second child, who is due in about a month.

Keith D. Macneir

"Keith was the friendliest and kindest guy in any room," a GoFundMe created for Macneir's family and surviving son reads. "His loss will leave a huge hole in the lives of many, many people." He was 64.
