People Editorial Guidelines Published on February 28, 2024 10:39AM EST A friendly rivalry has seemingly been sparked between the country coaches on The Voice. On Tuesday night's episode of the NBC singing competition show, things got competitive between coaches when Reba McEntire blocked Dan + Shay from contestant Donny Van Slee after his blind audition. Van Slee, 30, took the stage and performed "Greatest Love Story" by LANCO. McEntire, 68, was the first to turn around, and the "Fancy" performer used her one block of the season to prevent Dan + Shay from getting him on their team. "You started the battle. So guess what, buckle up Reba. We're coming from you," Shay Mooney, 32, told McEntire. Reba McEntire and Dan + Shay. I loved the little raspiness, and when I heard you — my first thought was, 'Block them.'" After welcoming Van Slee to her team, the "I'm a Survivor" singer gifted him some chicken tenders. Later, in private interviews with the coaches, the "Tequila" duo expressed how shocked they were upon finding out out they were blocked. "I mean Reba blocked us, the new guys. How rude. To be honest, I'm questioning it — I thought she was a sweet lady. And now she's got that competitive edge," Mooney said. Reba McEntire. Only seconds into her performance, Dan + Shay turned around and blocked McEntire. "Bye bye, bye bye, Reba, bye bye," they sang after her performance, as McEntire said, "Paybacks, paybacks!" "Vengeance is sweet," Mooney said. Dan Smyers, 36, later added, "Man, blocked the Queen of Country Music. Put that one on the resume." Then, John Legend weighed in: "I think we have a little war starting. Is the Queen of Country going to keep dominating, or does she have some real competition with Dan + Shay?"
