Entertainment Books Memoirs Billie Piper on the 'Toughest Hours' She's Ever Worked By Staff Author Published on January 20, 2009 08:00PM EST The exhaustion of caring for a newborn is hard to imagine unless you’ve actually lived it, and now that Billie Piper is in the thick of it with 3-month-old Winston James, she singles it out as the most surprising aspect of new motherhood. “Just how tiring it is, and how hard moms have to work,” she tells Media Blvd. magazine. “I just had absolutely no idea.” Winston is a “restless” sleeper who keeps Billie and her husband Laurence Fox on their toes. “He gives us hope, and then he changes his routine.” She adds, “I’ve worked some sh-tty hours in my life, but these are the toughest hours I’ve ever had.” Perhaps not coincidentally, Billie goes on to list patience as the most important thing she’s learned since welcoming her son. She considers Winston a “best friend for life,” and says that the unconditional love she feels for him caught her off-guard. “I hadn’t ever felt that,” she says. “I used to think it was so cheesy when people said that, but it’s something I finally understand…The smiling is really amazing too.” Although she is yet to return to the set of Secret Diary of a Call Girl, the 26-year-old actress is preparing for the nude scenes she’ll be expected to film; To that end, Billie plans to hit the treadmill. “You just do whatever works, and running works for me,” she says. Noting that the role of a prostitute is “very, very different to what we’re dealing with at home,” Billie feels she’ll have no trouble compartmentalizing the two. “I’m a very different person at home, so I’m sure it will be just as it’s always been. I can’t imagine that it’s going to be that strange. Once you’re in that world, that’s the world that you’re existing in, pretty much all day long. Then, I go home to the hubby and the child.” Secret Diary of a Call Girl airs Sundays at 10:30 on Showtime.
