Martin Scorsese Hugs Lily Gladstone After She Loses Best Actress Oscar to Emma Stone

Gladstone was nominated for her role as Mollie Burkhart in 'Killers of the Flower Moon'

Martin Scorsese spent some time with Lily Gladstone after she missed out on the Best Actress Oscar at the 2024 Academy Awards on Sunday.

Gladstone, 37, was up for the award for her role as Mollie Burkhart in Killers of the Flower Moon. However, it ended up going to Emma Stone, 35, for her role as Bella Baxter in Poor Things.

In a clip shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), Scorsese, 81, who directed Gladstone in the role she was nominated for, was seen placing a hand on the actress' shoulder before hugging her and kissing her on the cheek.

“Lily is an incredible talent. Her selecting Gucci to dress her for this historic moment is an honor,” De Sarno told Vogue about creating the look that paid tribute to her Indigenous community. “Creating a dress that conveys beauty and illuminates Indigenous designers and artistry, passed down through generations, is powerful. The collaboration with Joe and [his wife] Sunshine in Italy was a special moment for me.”

While speaking to PEOPLE last month, Gladstone teased the outfit she had planned for the ceremony, saying that her attire would "definitely" be a "showstopper," and she wasn't wrong.

"Definitely museum-worthy, I would say," Gladstone said while speaking at the 26th Costume Designers Guild Awards.

The actress, who is of Siksikaitsitapi and Niimiipuu heritage, made history at this year's Oscars after becoming the first Native American actress to be nominated for an Academy Award.

"It's going to be just ongoing proof that Indigenous design belongs on red carpets with luxury fashion in a very centerpiece kind of way. I'm excited," Gladstone, who was the fourth Indigenous actress to earn a nomination in the Best Actress category, continued at the time while speaking about her red-carpet look.

The other nominees in the Best Actress category at Sunday's ceremony were Annette Bening for NyadSandra Hüller for Anatomy of a Fall and Carey Mulligan for Maestro
