Nicholas Hoult Shows Off Dance Moves and a Rugged Beard in the Rolling Stones' 'Mess It Up' Music Video

The actor pulls a page out of Forrest Gump's playbook in the new music video

Nicholas Hoult’s got the moves like Jagger.

The Great star put on his dancing shoes — and showed off a rugged beard — in the new Rolling Stones music video “Mess It Up,” which came out Tuesday night.

In the clip, Hoult sets off on a cross-terrain journey after getting into an argument with his significant other.

At first it seems as though he’s simply blowing off steam. But before long, he’s channeling his inner Forrest Gump as he walks and walks and walks through diners, forests, highways and finally, the beach.

By the time he gets to the ocean, he’s grown a long beard, and as he dances, he’s hit with a moment of realization. Hoult, 34, then sprints backwards to make it home, only to find his yard littered with children’s toys.

He soon realizes that his ex has moved on, and is abruptly knocked out cold by her new man.

The video was directed by Calmatic, who’s worked on videos for artists like Kendrick Lamar and Lil Nas X in the past.

“Hard to believe this is real! Super honored to be a part of and add a bit of my art into such a storied legacy,” the director wrote on Instagram. “Super blessed to work with the extremely talented @nicholashoult! Choreo by @monikafelicesmith definitely made me look good. 😅”

“Mess It Up” is featured on the Stones’ latest offering Hackney Diamonds, which was released in October and marks their first album in 18 years. It’s one of two album tracks to feature the late Charlie Watts on drums, as it was recorded two years before his death in August 2021.

In September, the band released a music video for "Angry" starring Sydney Sweeney.

"We wouldn't have put out this album out if we didn't really like it," frontman Mick Jagger told Jimmy Fallon while announcing the record in September. "We must say that we are quite pleased with it. We’re not big-headed but we hope you like it."

Last month, Jagger and company announced that they’ll take Hackney Diamonds on the road next year for a 16-date run of stadium concerts across the United States and Canada.

Kicking off April 28 in Houston, the Rolling Stones will perform shows in cities including New Orleans, Las Vegas, Seattle, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and more before wrapping on July 17 in Santa Ana, California.

The Stones Tour '24 Hackney Diamonds marks the "Jumpin' Jack Flash" group's first time returning to the U.S. for an official string of concerts since 2019's No Filter Tour.
