Their collaboration probably wouldn’t be at the top of Angelina Jolie‘s viewing list, but Billy Bob Thornton thinks he and Brad Pitt would make a pretty great team onscreen.

“This might surprise people, but I’d love to do a movie with Brad Pitt. I think we’d be great together. We’d play a couple of Southern guys,” the Fargo star recently told Playboy.

Despite splitting up with Jolie over a decade ago, the actor recently told Entertainment Tonight that he and Jolie keep in touch from time to time. “She seems, you know, okay to me when I talk to [her]. I don’t talk to her that often though,” Thornton said at a recent press junket for his new movie Bad Santa 2. “We’re still very good friends, but she’s got her world. I’ve got mine.”

Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in September, citing irreconcilable differences. Thornton married Jolie in 2000 and the two divorced three years later. “Once in a blue moon we come together,” Thornton said of his current friendship with 41-year-old Jolie. “Every now and then we talk, you know? Whatever. But when people are going through their trials and tribulations I try to leave them alone unless they want to talk to me.”

The actor also spoke about his ex in a recent interview with GQ, saying, “I never felt good enough for her.” He added that despite many years in Hollywood, he’s “real comfortable around rich and important people.”

In the weeks following their split, Jolie and Pitt, 52, have tangled over custody of their six children: Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 8.

Jolie wants sole physical custody of the kids, with visitation for Pitt. Pitt is pushing for shared physical custody, as he requested in his court response on Nov. 4.
