Molly Ringwald's prom dress from Pretty in Pink is iconic today, but if she had her way while filming the 1986 hit, it would've never been on screen!

In a recent interview with Harper's Bazaar for its "Fashion Flashback" series asking stars to reflect on their biggest fashion moments both on and off screen, the Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans star, 56, revealed how she initially felt about the dress her character Andie wore to the prom in the 1986 film.

"The dress is so iconic now; I really hated it at the time, it was not really what I had envisioned," she said when shown a picture of the dress.

Prompted by someone off screen to share her reaction to seeing the dress for the first time, Ringwald said: "I cried, I burst into tears, no one can really look good in this dress. This is not a very flattering dress."

She elaborated on the specific design of the dress, saying that she liked the pink lace halter at the top, but at the time, wasn't enthusiastic about the "inverted triangle" shape of the rest of the dress, which was on trend at that time in the '80s.

"Considering that Andie was supposed to be this great fashion designer, I thought like, maybe she should have pursued something else," Ringwald laughed, referring to her character in the film where the teen must choose between taking her childhood sweetheart or her rich, sensitive new crush to the prom.

Ringwald said she kept most of the clothes from Pretty in Pink except for the prom dress in question, which was made by Marilyn Vance, who also worked on the iconic 1990 film Pretty Woman.

"It's too bad — I would love it now," Ringwald said, adding that she'd tell her younger self to "have a sense of humor" about the dress, adding, "If you can look good in this dress you can look good in anything."
