Mindy Kaling Compares Herself to Meghan Markle While Cooking the 'Best Thing' She's Ever Made in New Video

Mindy Kaling is diving into soup season head first.

The actress and comedian shared a cooking video using a soup recipe from “the great" Maxine Sharf of @maxiskitchen. The "quickie dumpling soup" calls for combing frozen dumplings into a Thai red curry base.

“So this is exciting,” Kaling, 45, begins the Instagram video. “You need basil for this recipe and I have two basil plants." The mom of three gestures to her gardening area but asks viewers not to look at the one dying plant. “I’m freaking Meghan Markle over here," she quips.

The Duchess of Sussex, 42, has a well-documented love of cooking, from brining turkey for Thanksgiving on her now-defunct Instagram to collaborating with the Hubb Community Kitchen on a fundraising cookbook as one of her first projects as a member of the royal family.

She also has an upcoming Netflix series that will celebrate her love of cooking, gardening and entertaining.

Back in Kaling's kitchen, the Sex Lives of College Girls creator washes and chops basil, bok choy, peppers and garlic before heating her oil in a pot.

“This Thai curry looks like it was cat food but it smells delicious,” she jokes, showing off the tin before adding its contents to the pot along with coconut milk. She adds some chicken stock, sugar and fish sauce into the mix. After adding all of her produce, Kaling drops in the frozen dumplings, stirs the soup and watches it simmer. At the end, she squeezes in some lime juice and adds the chopped basil before serving herself a bowl.

After taking a spoonful, she says plainly, “Maybe the best thing I’ve ever made and it was so easy to make. I cannot wait to have a giant bowl of this, curl up on the sofa, watching Menendez murder show and just have the best freaking autumn of my life.”

In the caption, Kaling wrote that she is a “a soup head” and loves to make it year-round.

“There’s a silent community of people who love soup all year long and we can only emerge when it’s seasonly appropriate so here is a soup video in honor of ‘fall’,” she joked in the caption.

Sharf, a recipe developer who has almost 3 million followers across TikTok and Instagram, recently told PEOPLE about what it's like to have celebrities recreate her recipes.

“It's such a pinch-me moment whenever I see something like that happen,” said the food blogger . “It’s been cool. Even Jessica Alba's made one of my recipes and posted it, Mindy Kaling. It always really, really crazy seeing that happen. I'm always shocked and excited, and It makes me feel motivated to continue doing what I'm doing.”
