Megan Stalter Tells Us All About Playing a Sexy Devil in e.l.f. Skin's Hilarious New Campaign

Whether she’s wearing an array of hair accessories to play the queen of blind confidence, Kayla, on the hit show Hacks, or rocking a leopard fur coat and eye glitter as the charming yet chaotic musician in the film Cora Bora, Megan Stalter knows how to put her wardrobe to work on screen. And her latest performance in e.l.f. Skin's new campaign is no exception.

“I really liked the look that we did. It was sexy and playful and different, “ says Stalter of the red leather outfit (complete with hair horns) she wore to play a “sinfluencer” in the video. “She's sassy and she's going out for the night.” (For the record, Stalter says she’d wear the look in real life, sans horns.)

The ensemble wasn’t the only thing the actress, 33, loved about working with the beauty brand on the campaign in which she encourages people to commit skin sins like picking at pimples and buying expensive skincare gadgets.

“It was so much fun. I feel so lucky. They have such a good sense of humor,” she says. “I’ve been using e.l.f. products since I was a nanny. They’re so affordable, but also really, really good, amazing quality.”

While overspending on beauty products isn’t one of her skin sins, Stalter confesses she is guilty of another common temptation. 

“I definitely used to sleep in my makeup,” she says. “In the past, I didn't really see the fun in skincare and I didn't know as much about it and how important it was.”

When it comes to getting glam for red carpet events, Stalter and her stylist come up with her outfit first then confer with hair and makeup. 

Stalter likes to experiment with different looks, which is something she shares with her Hacks character.  “Kayla’s makeup is the makeup I do. I love a lot of colored eyeliner. Same with her outfits. I love every single thing she wears. It’s a different version of me if I worked in an office and was more funky.”

Her next role in Lena Dunham’s semi-autobiographical comedy series Too Much, pushes her a bit out of her beauty comfort zone. She plays Jessica (a fictional version of Dunham) and wears a short, curly wig. 

“Once I have it on, I'm kind of like, okay, I'm literally her,” she says of her transformation. “I don't feel like me in it, which is cool because I'm playing someone else.”
