Luke Bryan Pitched Blake Shelton on Barmageddon Spinoff: 'He's Got a Lot of Stupid Ideas'

"That's why he's been so successful, because he never stops thinking and stuff. Eventually he hits on something," the country star said of his pal

It seems that Luke Bryan sees greener pastures for Blake Shelton.

Following the success of Shelton’s Barmageddon show, Bryan, 47, wanted to get in on the action and pitched the "God’s Country" singer on a similar show: Farmageddon

"He's got a lot of stupid ideas, but he's got a lot of ideas," Shelton, 47, joked of the alcohol-infused farm-based pitch. "He's constantly trying to come up with what's next. That's why he's been so successful, because he never stops thinking and stuff. Eventually he hits on something."

Shelton has no plans to follow through with his pal’s idea. In fact, "TV stuff is behind [him,]" he says while referring to his 23 seasons on The Voice. These days he’s found a passion in opening his Ole Red bars, as he did in Las Vegas earlier this month

On both April 16 and 17, Shelton descended on the stage at his Vegas outpost for the official grand opening. There, he played one-hour shows in which he rattled off his hits and a cover song or two. However, the highlight of the week came on Tuesday when his wife, Gwen Stefani, joined him on stage to sing "Happy Anywhere" and "Nobody But You." Stefani’s appearance came just days after her Coachella performance with No Doubt

"It meant the world to me. It meant the world to all of us on the team," Shelton told PEOPLE of having his wife support his bar opening. He even joked that there are more pictures of Stefani on the walls of the bar than of him (he might be right!) "It's basically all you need to know about who matters around here. You come in the front door and it's like, 'Wow, I thought this is Blake’s space,'" he joked.

In between Coachella in Indio, California, and the Ole Red opening in Vegas, Stefani flew to Tennessee for a wedding, too.

"I will say this morning she woke up and she's like, 'Hey, y'all have used me up officially. I need rest,'" Shelton noted. “But she was here for the big moment [Tuesday night] and she had a blast… [Stefani’s in-person support] meant the world to the whole team here, it really did. So I can't thank her enough."

For Shelton and his team, they make no bones about wanting to open more Ole Red bars — they have six — but he’s also ready to return to his roots.

"I hadn't even made a record in years," he told reporters, "and so maybe I thought I'd try this country music thing again."
