Karlie Kloss is giving her body a break after welcoming two baby boys within the span of two years.

"I had a conversation with myself a while ago because I want to be in shape but I also have more self-compassion, because my body created life," the supermodel, 31, shared during a talk at an event for Theragun at Reset in New York City.

Kloss, who is a Therabody brand ambassador and investor, tells PEOPLE the one thing that went haywire during her pregnancy was her supermodel posture.

"Just being pregnant for nine months, I found my posture got so bad," she shares. "So now I'm relearning my whole anatomy and trying to fix it, straighten my back."

Kloss, who is married to Josh Kushner and mom to son Levi, 2, and Elijah, 4 months, says that when it comes to her diet, she doesn't have any particular restrictions.

"Let me tell you, I come from a long line of carb lovers," she shares. "I'm from the Midwest. I never even saw a green juice until I was 20 years old. I eat what I want, but I try and listen to my body, even though that's changed. I just do what I can to rest, recover, and refuel my body."

She also says her fitness routine has changed since becoming a mom. "Everything changes after kids," she says with a laugh.

"My routine has evolved. It's gotten more efficient," she says. "I feel like my philosophy has gotten much more about strength in sustainable ways. So I do light weights and also body weight exercises. I travel a lot still, so I don't always have a gym nearby. So I like to do things that I can do anywhere. And I like to squeeze in the workout first thing in the morning. Actually, the first thing I do in the morning is check my sleep data. I'm weirdly competitive with myself over my sleep."

Of course, having two kids under two doesn't make for a ton of extra snoozing: "They especially don't care if I had fun last night, they're up at 6," she shared during the event, adding that her recent appearance at the CFDAs was one of the first major events she'd gone to since welcoming Elijah in July.

"It was so fun," she tells PEOPLE of her mom's night out.

As for balancing the little ones while keeping up with her modeling career (and running her Kode With Klossy foundation, which teaches girls to code), she says she's just spending as much time being present with them as she possibly can.

"They're delicious," she says. "My 2-year-old is just, oh my gosh, he's a sponge. He's asking a million questions and he's so curious and I feel like I'm seeing the world through his eyes. All the cliche things that I find myself saying, I can't even believe it. But it's really special."
