Kamala Harris Debuts Campaign's New Beyoncé Theme Song, 'Freedom,' in First 2024 Election Ad: 'A Winner Don't Quit'

"In this election, we each face a question," Harris says in the new video. "What kind of country do we want to live in?"

Kamala Harris released her first campaign video early Thursday morning, featuring Beyoncé's song "Freedom.”

In the video, Harris' narration draws a contrast between herself and former President Donald Trump. Viewers can see crowds of people chanting “Kamala” at her campaign rally on Tuesday and holding up blue and white signs with the vice president’s name.

"In this election, we each face a question," Harris says in the ad. "What kind of country do we want to live in?"

“There are some people who think we should be a country of chaos. Of fear. Of hate,” Harris continues. “But us? We choose something different. We choose freedom.”

In the new ad, Harris says "freedom" includes the ability “not just to get by, but to get ahead. The freedom to be safe from gun violence. The freedom to make decisions about your own body.”

“We choose a future where no child lives in poverty. Where we all can afford health care. Where no one is above the law,” Harris says.

The video includes images of Trump and his running mate, J.D. Vance, and it shows headlines about the former president’s 34 felony convictions and the Supreme Court’s recent decision to grant Trump immunity for all of his official White House acts.

“We believe in the promise of America and we are ready to fight for it," she concludes. "Because when we fight, we win. So join us."

The ad ends with Beyonce’s lyrics, “I'ma keep running cause a winner don’t quit on themselves.”

Harris' decision to use a Beyoncé song as her campaign anthem comes after the singer gave rare permission for the vice president to incorporate "Freedom" into her campaign materials. Harris also played the song to mark her first official visit to her campaign headquarters on Monday.

U.S. President Joe Biden and U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris wave to members of the audience after speaking at a campaign rally at Girard College on May 29, 2024 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Biden and Harris are using today's rally to launch a nationwide campaign to court black voters, a group that has traditionally come out in favor of Biden, but their support is projected lower than it was in 2020.

The release of Harris' campaign video came nearly 12 hours after President Joe Biden delivered his first primetime address to the country since suspending his reelection campaign.

In the speech, Biden said that Harris is "experienced, she's tough, she's capable . . . she's been an incredible partner to me and a leader for our country."
