Wolfs Clip: George Clooney and Brad Pitt Grill Amy Ryan as Rival Fixers in a Sticky Situation (Exclusive)

'Wolfs' is in select theaters Sept. 20, then on Apple TV+ starting Sept. 27

George Clooney and Brad Pitt are competing to get the job done in Wolfs.

The frequent costars play rival fixers hired for the same job in the new film, directed by Jon Watts.

The two "lone wolves" have to "cover up a high-profile crime," a synopsis teases. But when they are "forced to work together, they find their night spiraling out of control in ways that neither one of them expected."

In a clip shared exclusively with PEOPLE, Clooney, 63, and Pitt, 60, have a back-and-forth while questioning Amy Ryan's character and butting heads on their approach to the task at hand.

Clooney and Pitt rolled out the film at the Venice Film Festival, where it had its world premiere.

The costars and real-life pals recently told GQ about their shared "competitive nature" and how "talking s--- between takes" helps their onscreen banter, according to Pitt.

Said Clooney, "There’s a very interesting thing that happens when you’ve been working together a long time where, I don’t have to be looking even near him to know what he’s doing and have some idea of what’s going on. And there’s a great ease to that and confidence where you just go, 'Oh yeah, I know what he’s going to do.' "

"And by the way," he added, "there are plenty of scenes in Wolfs in particular where you could feel one of us teeing it up for the other guy. So it’s not competitive anymore."
