Elle King is lifting the lid on her fractured relationship with her father Rob Schneider

Speaking in an edited teaser for an upcoming episode of Bunnie Xo’s Dumb Blonde podcast, the “Ex's & Oh's” singer, 35, discussed her upbringing with dad Schneider, 60, as she recalled him sending her away to “fat camp” as a child.

King said in the edited clip from the episode posted on TikTok on Saturday, Aug. 10, “I was, like, a really, really heavy child. My dad sent me to fat camp. And then I got in trouble one year because I sprained my ankle and I didn't lose any weight. Very toxic and very silly,” she added.

Elsewhere in the clip, King shared that she goes for “four or five years without talking to my dad” as she also criticized Schneider for his alleged opinions on social issues as part of the reason they do not get along.

“I disagree with a lot of the things that he says,” she continued. “You're talking out of your ass and you're talking s--- about drag and, you know, anti-gay rights and it's like get f---ed... He’s just talking out of his ass and I want to use this opportunity to say that I disagree. I do not agree with what he says.”

Schneider's representatives did not issue a comment to PEOPLE.

King was mainly raised by her mother, former model London King, and stepdad Justin Tesa in Ohio. She reconnected with Schneider as an adult after a strained past relationship with him as a child.

Speaking about the actor’s presence in her life growing up, she said, “If I would ever spend a summer with my dad it would be on a movie set. I would just get lost in the shuffle. If I ever messed up a shot, if I ever was talking, I would get in f---ing trouble.”

“... My dad forgot about every single birthday,” King also recalled. “I spent my 18th birthday in a summer school and they brought me cupcakes and I came home and my dad forgot my birthday.”

King previously shared with PEOPLE in 2018 that she had, at the time, grown closer to Schneider after leaving a “destructive” marriage and struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues.

However, as well as noting that the two go years without talking to one another, she also said in the edited clip that, “he never helped me.” Though it was not clear what point in her life she was referring to, she went on to say: “I never wanted his help."

“He also didn't have a very good reputation. I don't want to be associated with him. He’s just not nice," she added.

King also said during the edited clip that she would “try every different angle” in repairing her relationship with her dad. “I would try letters, I would try soft, I will try yelling. He's just like, ‘Well see look you're yelling,’ ” she continued.

“You can want someone to change so much. You can't control anyone else's actions you can't control people's feelings,” she also said. “All you can control is how you react and what you do with your feelings. And sometimes I f---ing boil up and I boil over and I f---ing bust my lid.”
