Dick Van Dyke is out and about.

The 98-year-old Hollywood legend was spotted in Malibu on Monday, Sept. 23 running errands near his home in photos obtained by PEOPLE. He was casually dressed in a blue long-sleeve shirt and black pants and walked with a cane after an outing with a helper.

He reportedly told photographers who saw him and asked how he was doing that he felt "old."

The spotting comes amid growing concern over the actor after he missed the 2024 Emmy Awards, where he was slated to be a presenter. He then canceled a scheduled appearance at the FanX Salt Lake City Comic Convention.

No official statement was made after he missed the Emmys. However, nearly a week later on Sept. 21, the FanX team released a statement sharing the news that Van Dyke would no longer be appearing at the three-day event.

"We are sorry to announce that Dick Van Dyke is not able to travel to FanX. He expresses his gratitude to all of those who support him but, at almost 99 years of age, traveling and interacting with thousands of people is more than he is able to do at this time."

The two missed appearances come less than a month after Van Dyke collected a trophy at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmy Awards for his CBS birthday special, Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magic.

"Thank you, that reception, I cannot tell you what it means," he said in his acceptance speech. He was joined by his wife Arlene Silver, who served as an executive producer on the special, and he gave her a sweet shoutout.

"The young lady who got this award, you may think of the word nepotism and I would understand it, but this lady got the job all by herself as producer of the Dick Van Dyke special because she knows me inside and out, and knows how I work, and don't take no sass from anybody. Arlene Van Dyke!"

Arlene, 52, then gave her own brief remarks as she said to her husband that it's "an honor to spend my life with you," adding, "We got four nominations that put love, heart and soul into the show. To honor you, you've created endless joy and playfulness for generations to come."

Earlier this year, Van Dyke made history as the oldest Daytime Emmy Winner as he won the prize for best guest performer in a daytime drama series for his role as Timothy Robicheaux on Days of Our Lives.

"I'm 98 years old, can you believe it?" he said in his acceptance speech. "This really tops off a lifetime of 80 years in the business."
