Sting Concert to Re-Open Bataclan, the Paris Theatre Where 90 Died in 2015 Terrorist Attacks

Sting will perform at the re-opening of the Bataclan — the historic Parisian music venue where 90 people were killed during a concert by the Eagles of Death Metal in November 2015

Taking to Twitter Friday morning, the artist announced a concert that will benefit victims of the Paris attacks.

The event is set for Nov. 12.

In re-opening the Bataclan, the singer said in a related statement on his website, “we have two important tasks to reconcile. First, to remember and honor those who lost their lives in the attack a year ago, and second to celebrate the life and the music that this historic theatre represents. In doing so, we hope to respect the memory as well as the life affirming spirit of those who fell. We shall not forget them.”

The historic concert hall has undergone extensive renovation. A new updated facade was unveiled last Thursday.

According to sources, the city of Paris is planning a memorial service outside the theatre on Sunday morning at 11 a.m., commemorating the attack anniversary. Sting’s concert will come four days before the house’s previously scheduled re-opening: a sold-out show by English rocker Pete Doherty.

Eagles of Death Metal, whose Bataclan concert was interrupted when terrorists took over the concert hall, performed a memorial show in February at L’Olympia theatre. BFM TV reported they’ll be in attendance at the memorial ceremony outside the Bataclan, where a memorial plaque will be unveiled.

Tickets for the re-opening benefit will be sold online beginning Tuesday, with profits shared by Life For Paris and the 13 Novembre Fraternité Verité charities.
