Carrie Underwood, Other Stars Give to Oklahoma Relief Efforts

Oklahoma’s star contingent is showing its love for the victims of the recent deadly tornado that killed 24 people and injured 240.

Among the many generous showbiz names is Carrie Underwood, who on Thursday announced a $1 million donation to the Red Cross from her “Blown Away” tour’s concert receipts.

“I have watched the devastation in my home state of Oklahoma over the past several days with great sadness,” Underwood said in a statement. “With the help of my fans who attended my concerts over the past year, we can offer the Red Cross a little extra help in comforting those affected by the recent tornados.”

She’s not alone in the million-dollar club, with Oklahoma City Thunder star forward Kevin Durant making a similar gift to Red Cross relief efforts through his own foundation, the Associated Press reports. His team is also kicking in another $1 million.

“As the day went on and I saw the footage and the casualties and the houses being blown away, it was tough to see,” said Durant, who was out of state when the storm occurred. “I call Oklahoma City my home. I go through Moore all the time. It’s unfortunate. We’re going to come together as a city like we always do and we’re going to bounce back.”

Blake Shelton, who lives with Miranda Lambert live in nearby Ada, Okla., announced a benefit concert to air live on NBC, where he serves as a coach on The Voice, the Oklahoman reports. “Healing in the Heartland” is set for May 29 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City.

Also considering a fundraising concert is Moore, Okla., native Toby Keith, whose name appears on the small town’s water tower.

Oklahoma natives Olivia Munn and Kristin Chenoweth took to Twitter to encourage support for residents – Chenoweth through her Maddie’s Corner charity, promoting T-shirt sales to help displaced animals.

Several country stars, including Rascal Flatts’ Joe Don Rooney, Reba McEntire, Bryan White and Trisha Yearwood, who lives in the state with her husband Garth Brooks, also Tweeted messages of support.
