People Editorial Guidelines Published on February 15, 2018 04:37PM EST Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee nabbed big nominations —Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Song of the Year, Record of the Year — at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards, which took place on Jan. 28, for their record-breaking hit “Despacito.” And had they won in either of the latter two categories, they’d have made history as the first Spanish-language song to do so, but the man of the hour was Bruno Mars, who scored those trophies and five others. Although many felt that the Puerto Rican duo behind the global hit were snubbed, the Fonsi has no bad blood and, in fact, hopes to collaborate with the “24K Magic” singer. After revealing to PEOPLE CHICA that he’d like to work with the Mars, Fonsi sent a message the R&B singer a sweet spirited message: “[Bruno] won some Grammys,” he said jokily. “Maybe we could talk about that in person buddy? Maybe you could let me borrow one of those,” he joked, before continuing on a more serious note: “I am a huge fan of Bruno. I’m not bitter one bit. He deserves everything, anybody in that category deserved to win. I was happy to be there clapping for him.” Presley Ann/Patrick McMullan via Getty Images Grammys aside, Fonsi and his fellow hitmaker Yankee’s spotlight is nowhere near dimming. On Jan. 31, they were certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), representing 10 million or more sales and streams in the United States. This past Saturday, the international hit got love at the 2018 Winter Olympics when ice skating dance duos — Shiyue Wang and Xinyu Liu of China and Yura Min and Alexander Gamelin of South Korea — blasted it in back-to-back performances. “I know this is a moment in time. There will never be another ‘Despacito’ and I can’t compete with that,” he exclusively told PEOPLE CHICA. “Let’s celebrate it. Let’s not forget about it because it changed my life, and I would like to think a lot of peoples lives. But I can’t have that sort of in the back of my head from now on. I have to keep on moving forward.” Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for NARAS Even if he’s keeping his cool, Fonsi is determined to keep the momentum going for Spanish music and he’s doing just that with his latest chart topper “Echame La Culpa.” The song, featuring Demi Lovato, hit No. 1 on Billboard‘s Latin Airplay Chart (dated Jan. 20) and is currently sitting in the No. 2 spot. “We’ve been able to keep it going,” he said. “It’s a big responsibility now that the door is open to make sure that we keep on delivering quality songs.” Watch the entire interview with Luis Fonsi here.
