Billie Lourd marked her late mother Carrie Fisher's birthday in a special way.

On Sunday, Oct. 20, Lourd, 32, shared a photo to her Instagram Stories from Joni Mitchell's concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and wrote that she was honoring the late Fisher, who would have turned 68 on Monday, Oct. 21, by seeing the legendary singer perform.

Lourd's mother Fisher, who was famous for her roles in movies like Star Wars and When Harry Met Sally, died on Dec. 27, 2016, at age 60. In the years since Fisher's death, Lourd typically shares tributes to her late mother on her birthday and the anniversary of her death each year.

While marking seven years since Fisher's death in December 2023, Lourd wrote in an Instagram post that "every anniversary brings a different iteration of my grief" as she shared a throwback photo of her posing on a beach with her mother.

"Some infuse me with rage, some make me cry all day long, some make me feel dissociated and empty, some make me feel nothing," Lourd, who shares two young children with her husband Austen Rydell, wrote at that time. "Some make me feel guilty for feeling nothing, and some make me feel all of those things all at once."

Lourd still keeps her mother in mind when she chooses her movie roles; at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, she told PEOPLE she "was so excited to" act alongside Pamela Anderson in the new movie The Last Showgirl "because it reminded me so much of my mom and grandma."

"My grandma was a showgirl in her own right and my mom was a little bit of the character that I got to play," she said at the time of Fisher and her grandmother Debbie Reynolds, who died at 84 just one day after Fisher in 2016.
