Ashlyn Harris Tells Girlfriend Sophia Bush 'Proud of You Babe' for Coming Out in Glamour Cover Story

Ashlyn Harris is proud of her girlfriend, Sophia Bush, as the actress publicly came out as "queer" in Glamour's latest cover story.

Harris, 38, shared the cover of the issue to her Instagram Stories on Friday, April 26, writing, "Proud of you babe," over the image.

The former USWNT player, who began dating the One Tree Hill alum, 41, in the fall of 2023, added a teary-eyed smiling emoji and a melting emoji as she celebrated Bush's feature.

In the cover story, Bush penned a vulnerable essay about almost calling off her June 2022 wedding to entrepreneur Grant Hughes before their short-lived marriage and experiencing "real joy" as she publicly comes out as "queer" for the first time.

“I finally feel like I can breathe. I don’t think I can explain how profound that is,” she wrote. "I feel like I was wearing a weighted vest for who knows how long."

Bush continued, "I hadn’t realized how heavy it was until I finally just put it down. This might sound crazy — but I think other people in trauma recovery will get it — I am taking deep breaths again."

"I can feel my legs and feet. I can feel my feet in my shoes right now. It makes me want to cry and laugh at the same time," Bush added.

In August 2023, the actress filed for divorce from Hughes, 41, after a year of marriage. “In April of 2022, I was close to calling off my wedding. Instead of running away, I doubled down on being a model wife,” she wrote of the marriage in her Glamour essay.

In October, PEOPLE broke the news that Bush and Harris were seeing each other, just as the retired athlete had also filed for divorce from then-wife and fellow soccer pro, Ali Krieger, in September 2023.

Harris and Krieger, 39, share two children: son Ocean and daughter Sloane.

Once news of Harris and Bush's then-budding romance broke, rumors of infidelity began swirling.

At the time, a source told PEOPLE, “there was no salacious story” to their relationship, “though the public may want there to be.”

Bush addressed the rumor in her Glamour essay, writing, “The idea that I left my marriage based on some hysterical rendezvous — that, to be crystal-clear, never happened — rather than having taken over a year to do the most soul-crushing work of my life? … It feels brutal.”

Reflecting on her relationship with Harris, who Bush first met in 2019, the actress shared that they bonded as close friends while supporting each other through their breakups at the time.

Bush said she eventually invited Harris to a "non-friend-group hang" that turned out to be an hours-long dinner the actress called one of "the most surreal experiences" of her life.

Bush wrote, “Maybe it was all fated. Maybe it really is a version of invisible string theory. I don’t really know. But I do know that for a sparkly moment, I felt like maybe the universe had been conspiring for me."
