The Devil Wears Prada star, 40, appeared at The New York Public Library on Thursday to attend George and Amal Clooney's second annual Albies, which “aim to shine a spotlight on brave individuals who, at great personal risk, have devoted their lives to justice,” per a press release. The Oscar-winning actress dazzled in a floor-length gown featuring a checkerboard pattern of mint green and silver and a metallic finish. She accessorized the look with metallic jewelry and sandals. Her husband Adam Shulman, 42, accompanied her. Also in attendance were Meryl Streep, Viola Davis, Julianne Moore, Scarlett Johansson, Mary J. Blige, Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz, and Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach. The event, named after South African justice Albie Sachs, was presented by the Clooney Foundation for Justice, the organization founded in 2016 by George and Amal Clooney. Its goals include “providing free legal support to victims of human rights abuses," the press release continues, "with a focus on protecting women, journalists, defenders of democracy and minorities.” Last year's Albies were similarly star-studded, with a guest list that included Meryl Streep, Dua Lipa, John Oliver, Julia Roberts, Bruce Springsteen and more. George told PEOPLE at the time that Amal "happens to be really especially gifted at" building a foundation. "We collaborate on everything. We collaborated on twins!" The second annual Albies presented five awards to activists and organizations from around the world for their work in medicine, law and journalism. Among those honored were Congolese gynecologist and human rights advocate Dr. Denis Mukwege and journalists Niloofar Hamedi and Elahe Mohammadi, who reported on the death of Mahsa Amini in Iran. Also receiving special recognition were Ukrainian rights group Truth Hounds, free speech advocacy group the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression, and Thailand’s organization Thai Lawyers for Human Rights.
