Mariah Carey has a special duet partner in her life: her daughter, Monroe Carey Cannon.

The “Always Be My Baby” singer and her ex-husband Nick Cannon welcomed Monroe and her twin brother Moroccan on April 30, 2011. Monroe, nicknamed “Roe,” has since grown up to be a singer herself — and has performed with her mother many times on TikTok and onstage.

“I think I’m gonna do a little thing here where I'm gonna sing with someone who I absolutely love with all my heart,” Carey told the audience at The Hollywood Bowl in November 2023.

As her daughter joined her on stage, she told the audience to “look at the princess.”

“As they grow up and decide what to do with their lives, it’s really nice for me to be able to see them performing onstage,” she told PEOPLE in December 2023. “I even like watching them getting ready, preparing to perform.”

Although she is grateful for the moments she has gotten to share the stage with her daughter, Carey has made it clear that she would never push her own career on her kids. In November 2022, the Christmas queen told W Magazine that she wants her twins to understand “they can be anything they want to be.”

“When you grow up with a messed-up life and then you’re able to have this transformation where you can make your life what you want it to be? That is joy for me. That’s why I want my kids to have everything they can have,” she added.

From her birth announcement to her talents, here’s everything to know about Mariah Carey’s daughter, Monroe.

She was born on April 30, 2011

Carey and Cannon welcomed Monroe along with her twin brother Moroccan in Los Angeles on April 30, 2011, after confirming they were expecting six months earlier.

"Yes, we are pregnant. This is true," Carey said in an interview with Access Hollywood. "It's been a long journey. It's been tough because I've been trying to hold on to a shred of privacy."

But it wasn’t until a certain slip-up that Carey revealed she would be giving birth to twins.

On his radio show in December 2010, Cannon revealed that just a few days before, Carey had been asked about her pregnancy by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama when they attended TNT's Christmas in Washington 2010.

"They, ironically enough, questioned my wife about, you know, 'So, what are you having, are you having twins?' " Cannon said. "And at this point she hadn't told anybody anything because doctors advised us to keep it to ourselves until we get further along ... And because of the excitement, because of the emotion, she was overwhelmed [and] she shared with the President and First Lady that we are having twins."

She was named after Marilyn Monroe

In her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, Carey explained that she wanted both of her kids to share her same initials so was searching for names that started with the letter "M." Monroe's name was ultimately inspired by actress and model Marilyn Monroe.

Monroe often goes by the nickname "Roe.” She and her brother have also been deemed “dem kids” or “dem twins” by their parents — a playful label that quickly caught on with the public, too.

She has a special bond with her mom

Despite their divorce, Cannon and Carey have committed themselves to a healthy co-parenting relationship.

“I think Nick and I have done pretty well in co-parenting, staying friends with each other so that we can talk,” Carey told PEOPLE in August 2019.

Roe may be close to her father, but even Cannon has made note of his daughter's special bond with her mother.

"[You can] definitely see that connection with her and her mom," Cannon told Entertainment Tonight in February 2023. "It's beautiful, the fact that they get to have fun with each other ... families are connecting in a different way than ever before."

Monroe shares a musical and performing bond with her mom, who boasts over 18 no. 1 singles.

"I never say, 'You guys gotta do this,' you know? It’s whatever they want to do and they’re rehearsing for it and going for it and really working hard, so that’s impressive to me,” Carey told Access Hollywood in November 2023.

Monroe and her brother made a cameo in Carey’s “Fall in Love at Christmas” music video in November 2021.

“I love it. I love seeing them stepping into this performance space, this music space, and the fact that they’re eager to do it, that’s on them," she added.

In November 2022, Monroe and Moroccan made another appearance during Carey’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade performance when they popped out of present boxes to dance alongside their mother as she sang “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”

As Monroe got older, she transitioned from dancing alongside her mother to joining her on stage with her own microphone. In December 2022, the mother-daughter duo performed their first live duet, singing “Away in a Manger” at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

That was just the beginning, as Monroe joined her mom on many stops throughout Carey’s “Merry Christmas One And All!” tour, including a duet at the Hollywood Bowl in November 2023, a full circle moment from when she and her brother joined her mom on the same stage during her performance of “Always Be My Baby” in August 2017.

Cannon revealed to PEOPLE in January 2024 that Monroe is “into acting and performing — that’s her forte,” adding that she dreams of one day attending Yale’s drama school.

In November 2023, Carey revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that her twins got paid for their time on tour with her.

“I think it’s important for them to save their money so they’re not calling me when they are older asking for money,” she told Kimmel.

But Monroe was working even before that. In July 2021, she made her modeling debut in a back-to-school ad for children's brand OshKosh B'Gosh. The ad, which features a voiceover from Carey, pictures Monroe as a younger version of her mom.

"As a little girl, I was determined to realize my dreams," Carey said of the ad in a statement. "Now as a mother, it brings me so much joy to see my children visualize and develop the dreams they hold in their own hearts."

In November 2021, Carey told Access Hollywood that she thought her daughter “killed it.” “I like to let her be the star,” she said. “Let her win the moment, that’s her moment.”

She loves Olivia Rodrigo

Monroe has made one thing clear: she’s a big fan of Olivia Rodrigo. As of October 2024, even her Instagram profile bio reads “i love olivia rodrigo.”

In July 2024, she attended the pop star's concert and met Rodrigo backstage.

She shared photos and videos from the event on Instagram, writing, “this is so late but last tuesday was the best night of my life WHATT like @oliviarodrigo i love u so much i had the time of my life it was a dream fr (i need to be quiet when i recordddd 😭).”

Monroe also shared a peek at the shirt Rodrigo signed for her that read, “Roe all my love!"

Monroe has celebrated Christmas in special ways

Carey might famously sing that she wants one thing for Christmas — but her daughter gets a lot more.

In November 2022, Carey told W Magazine that Christmas in the Carey household includes Santa Claus visiting with his reindeer, as well as lots of family time. One month later, Carey shared on Instagram that she took Monroe and Moroccan on a “surprise midnight sleigh ride on Christmas Eve!”

The following year, Carey went from white snow to the White House, sharing photos on Instagram of the twins and her on a special trip to the Oval Office.

“Last week I had the pleasure of meeting President Biden & Vice President Harris at the White House to ring in the holiday season! While there, we got to see all the festive decor and spread some cheer! 🎄❄️☃️," she wrote in the caption.

Although Carey is best known for singing “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” her holiday wish is something more specific.

"All of us spending time together is more than enough as a gift for what I want for Christmas, and what I want for my kids for Christmas is to just enjoy themselves, be happy, enjoy being with family, and feel loved," Carey told PEOPLE in October 2023.

She makes many TikToks with her mom

The mother-daughter duo have made many TikToks together, from videos encouraging their followers to vote in elections to Carey recording her daughter completing the “high note challenge.”

They frequently joke around with one another, such as when Carey posted a video of Roe “practicing” one of her songs in February 2023. Roe was lip-syncing “It’s A Wrap” when her mother appeared from the corner and took the microphone.

"POV: every time I try to practice some vocals," Carey joked in the caption.

That same month, they made another mother-daughter TikTok to the song — this time, adding their friends Kim Kardashian and North West.
