Blake Shelton comes from a big family of "entertainers," and that includes his siblings: older sister Endy and late brother Richie.

The Voice alum is the youngest of three. His older brother, Richie Shelton, was the only son from Blake’s mother, Dorothy Ann Shackleford’s, first marriage. Dorothy Ann would later marry Dick Shelton and had two children together, daughter Endy Shelton Intrieri and Blake.

The “Anywhere with You” singer looked up to his older brother, who died tragically in a car accident in 1990, when Blake was only 14. After Richie’s death, Blake’s father gave him some difficult advice that he’s taken to heart.

"He said, 'Look, you will never, ever get over this happening, You're just gonna have to learn to get used to it,' " the Grammy nominee told 60 Minutes. ''He was absolutely right."

Blake is close with his sister, Endy, who lives in Oklahoma with her husband, Mike Intrieri, and their two children, son Ryan and daughter Jace. While Blake may be the famous name in the family, he told Cowboys & Indians that he comes from good people who worked hard and “had a lot of fun.”

“My family, it’s like they’re entertainers. Every single one of them,” he said. “They are so funny, and so much fun to be around. I know that’s where I got my sense of humor, and my ability to be an entertainer and not take myself so seriously. No one in my family takes themselves seriously.”

Here's everything to know about Blake Shelton’s siblings, late brother Richie Shelton and sister Endy Shelton Intrieri.

Born on June 18, 1976, in Ada, Oklahoma, Blake is the younger child of Dorothy Ann (née Bristol) Shackleford and U.S. Army veteran and car salesman Richard Lee “Dick” Shelton, who died in 2012.

Dorothy had one son from her first marriage to Ronnie Musgrove, Richie Don Shelton, born on July 6, 1966. She and Dick Shelton went on to have two children together, daughter Endy Shelton Intrieri, born in 1972, and Blake.

“My dad, when he married my mom — my mom had a baby, my brother, Richie,” Blake shared at the 2022 Country Radio Seminar, according to ABC News. “And he took Richie on and raised him from the time he was 1 years-old and my brother never thought of my dad as anything other than his dad.”

Blake shared that Dorothy Ann and Dick would later divorce. Both remarried, and Dick acted as a stepfather to his new wife’s kids, all of which gave Blake a model for when he married Gwen Stefani, who shares three sons with her ex-husband, Gavin Rossdale.

Richie died when Blake was 14

Richie died in a car accident on Nov. 13, 1990, in Oklahoma. He was 24.

Blake told Cowboys & Indians in 2018 that he’s never gotten over the death of his brother.

“My brother was my big brother. I mean, I wanted to be him,” he explained. “I wanted to look like him, dress like him, listen to what he listened to, and be into the things he was into. So when he was killed in a car accident, it was literally like the world went silent. There was a void in my world all of a sudden, and I’m still not over it. I’m just used to it.”

Over the years, Blake has paid homage to his late sibling on the anniversary of Richie’s death.

“Lost my brother 27 years ago today,” he tweeted in 2017. “I was only 14 at the time but it changed my life forever... Made me realize that life is precious and there's no time like RIGHT NOW to go for it... We still miss you Richie!”

Two years prior, he tweeted, “Wow… 25 years ago today we lost my brother Richie Shelton. He’s still my hero going strong. Wish everyone could’ve known him.”

Blake also mentioned his brother on a season 23 episode of The Voice, after a contestant named Noivas, spoke about losing his brother at 21.

“My brother, if he had been around, he would’ve freaked out if he had known what I had gone on to do,” Shelton told Noivas, according to Entertainment Tonight. “He was just such a huge music fan. You could hear him coming six blocks away, the stereo blaring out of his truck.”

The “God’s Country” singer grew up overhearing his brother play some of country and rock’s biggest names, which greatly affected Blake’s musical tastes.

“His bedroom was right across the hallway from mine when I was little," Blake told 60 Minutes in 2014. "And he was listening to Hank Williams, Jr. or Waylon, Lynyrd Skynyrd, or Bob Seger. I just, whatever was popular really, Richie loved all music. And I would be sitting there going, 'Man, that guy's my hero. That’s the coolest guy. He’s my big brother.' ”

During the interview, Blake shared how hard it was to deal with the reality of grief after losing Richie.

“I remember picking up the phone to call him a week after he was dead to tell him something,” he recalled. “It was like constantly a shock to me that he was dead.”

Blake and Gwen are known to spend as much time as they can on the country singer’s Oklahoma ranch. The extended Shelton clan, including Endy’s family, regularly visit them.

“It’s very tribal,” Gwen told Marie Claire in 2017. “Blake has a sister, she comes with her kids. We cook and get muddy and dirty. There are ATVs. Being a mother of three boys, it’s kind of the perfect place.”

Endy and her husband, Mike Intrieri, share two children, son Ryan Intrieri and daughter Jace Intrieri.

Blake and Endy visit each other outside of Oklahoma as well, including at big-name events. Back in 2016, the Intrieri family joined Blake at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.

Blake was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in May 2023.

Not only did his Voice peers — including Gwen, Adam Levine and Carson Dalyshare kind words about Blake during the ceremony, the country music star was also joined in Los Angeles by his immediate family.

In attendance was Endy and her husband, Mike, their two children and Blake’s mother, Dorothy. During his speech at the ceremony, Blake thanked them for coming out from Oklahoma for him, then paid tribute to his late brother. He shared that earlier that day, he was thinking about what he wanted to say on stage, and his mom said, “I wish Richie could have been here to see this and everything that you’ve done.”

“And I feel like that’s probably the best way to wrap this up. … I dedicate my star on this Walk of Fame to my brother, Richie,” Blake shared with the crowd.

Blake wrote a song with his second wife, singer Miranda Lambert, about Richie’s death.

Called “Over You,” the song was the second single off Miranda’s 2011 album, Four the Record, and won a CMA Award and an ACM Award, both for song of the year. The song was later covered by Blake’s Voice mentee, season three winner Cassadee Pope.

Endy once talked Blake into taking breakdancing lessons

Blake and Endy caught the dancing bug when they were kids — the breakdancing bug, that is.

During an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Blake told his friend and fellow Voice judge that when he was a kid in Ada, Oklahoma, he got intrigued by a newspaper ad that advertised dance lessons with a woman who had taught Michael Jackson.

“My sister, Endy, and I were like, ‘Hey, man, I’ll go if you’ll go. Like, let’s go. You wanna go?’ ” Blake recalled to Kelly.

The “Sangria” crooner only took one lesson, but that was enough to earn him the childhood nickname “Break It Down Blake.”

Now the Shelton siblings are all grown up, and Endy is just as supportive of her brother, sharing his accomplishments on social media and visiting him on the set of The Voice during Blake’s tenure on the NBC music competition show.

Endy also knows how to poke a little fun at her little brother. In honor of Mother’s Day 2020, Endy shared a picture of herself with Blake and their mom in a sunny outdoor location, sad that they couldn’t hug due to social distancing in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Thanks for being my best friend 🥰,” Endy wrote on Instagram. “Thanks for loving me and my weird brother 😍.”

When Blake married Gwen in July 2021, he joined the tight-knit Stefani clan. But what he didn’t expect was for his wife to help him become tighter with his own family.

"She's got her arms around all of them," he said, "and I never experienced that with anybody really, because that's a lot to take on, and family's first for Gwen.”
