During the 39-year-old country star's July 10 concert at History in Toronto, AJ McLean joined him on stage for a surprise duet of the boy band's 1999 hit "I Want It That Way." The moment came midway through Jelly's set, and McLean walked out to applause from the crowd before they performed the song together, according to footage from the show on social media. McLean is the latest fellow musician to hop on stage with Jelly (whose real name is Jason DeFord) as of late. Last month, he joined Eminem on stage to perform "Sing for the Moment" at Live From Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight afterward, the "Save Me" performer opened up about singing alongside the rap icon, which he described as the "coolest moment ever." Ayisha Collins/FilmMagic, Kurt Krieger/Corbis via Getty "When I think about coolest moments of my career, right now at the top, there has to be this thing that I got to go sing with Eminem in Detroit," said Jelly at the time. "I got to sing 'Sing for the Moment' with him, which is a record where he sampled Steven Tyler. I mean, just what an incredible night and I got to go do it in Detroit. It was unreal." He added that Slim Shady's team reached out. "I couldn't believe it. I thought it was a joke until I met Eminem himself," Jelly recalled, noting that he felt "giddy, like a child" during the performance. "I’m so excited [to perform outside the United States]. We’re figuring out the final pieces of some legal puzzles for me to get overseas," Jelly told Interview magazine last month. "It’s funny, America has finally agreed to let me leave and give me a passport, but some countries won’t let me come because of my felonies," he continued. "We’re working on that. I think it’s going to work in my favor." Close
