Adele is discussing the ways motherhood has been eye-opening for her.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the "Easy on Me" singer, 35, talked about how being a mom to son Angelo, 11, has taught her a lot about her own mom, Penny Adkins, and how she raised her.

"I talk to my friends a lot about this because my friends are having kids now. The first thing I think that comes up when you have a kid is it brings up a lot of your own childhood for you," she acknowledged.

"And no matter what your childhood was like — good or bad or whatever — you don’t want your child to have your childhood," Adele noted. "My mum was very young when she had me. She was on her own, and I realized all the things I thought she could have done better, that she couldn’t have."

As she's navigated her own journey in parenting, she's found, "It made me respect my mum more and has given me more patience with her, as her older-woman daughter."

"It made me see how hard it must’ve been because we had no money. She didn’t have my dad and stuff like that, whereas I was with Angelo’s dad. I’m very lucky that I can afford to look after my child properly, and more than properly," she shared.

"Also, you realize how hard adulting is. So on top of them being your mum, they’re also going through their own s---," she leveled. "I struggle not to show my emotions to Angelo with other things I’m going through. And I think that’s OK. Sometimes, I wish I could hide it a bit less. But also, it’s not easy being an adult for anybody, in any situation."

Adele welcomed her son Angelo in October 2012 and shares her child with charity executive Simon Konecki. The pair split in 2019.

Back in 2022, the singer — whose current partner is sports agent Rich Paul — told Elle that she wanted to give Angelo a sibling. "I definitely want more kids. I’m a homemaker and I’m a matriarch, and a stable life helps me with my music," she said.

"Right now, all I got in my brain is Vegas. I want to f---ing nail it," she added.
