A new book charting Taylor Swift’s musical journey and cultural impact, written by a Swiftie for Swifties, was released today and is already a bestseller on Amazon.
“Heartbreak is the National Anthem: How Taylor Swift Reinvented Pop Music” was written by longtime music journalist and Rolling Stone contributing editor Rob Sheffield, who is among the most qualified out there to write this particular time; he’s been covering and following Swift’s career from the early days through the record-breaking Eras Tour.
In an excerpt of the book shared with Rolling Stone, Sheffield passionately defends “All Too Well” as Swift’s greatest song, and elsewhere on Rolling Stone, he’s kept up a list that ranks all of Swift’s songs — 254 and counting — that gets updated any time the pop star releases a new album.
Sheffield’s new book, named after a line from Swift’s “New Romantics,” “is the first book that goes deep on the musical and cultural impact of Taylor Swift,” per the Audible description.
But the book doesn’t just examine Swift’s impact on pop music, it’ll also dive deep into the star herself, “the most public of stars, yet also the weirdest and most mysterious.”
As is often the case with new releases, library waitlists might be long and you may not be able to get your hands on a copy for weeks. But here’s a tip for you: check Audible and thank us later.
