Oprah Winfrey packs a punch at the DNC in a purple suit filled with hidden meaning
“The Color Purple” has arrived at the DNC.
Oprah Winfrey might not be a Democrat, but she took the stage at the party’s 2024 national convention in Chicago Wednesday while wearing a bold purple suit that cleverly combined her political views with its violet color.
The 70-year-old media mogul — who told the crowd she was “a registered Independent” in her speech — sported a custom Christian Siriano blazer and matching trousers that blended the shades of Republican red and Democratic blue.
Winfrey’s blazer — which was crafted from a silk crepe fabric — featured a wide band around the waist to create a corset-like shape, and she wore it with matching flowy trousers.
The former talk show host kept the purple theme going with violet pumps and huge amethyst drop earrings, and she even wore lavender tones of makeup for her speech.
Winfrey called on “all you Independents and all you undecideds” to vote for Harris, noting “values and character matter most of all.”
“First time speaking at the @demconvention—thank you for all the kind words. Now it’s time to what my forever FLOTUS @michelleobama said and “DO SOMETHING.” 🗳️🇺🇸” Winfrey posted on Instagram Thursday morning, sharing some behind-the-scenes photos and videos from her time at the convention.

Siriano also shared some photos from the proud moment, writing, “Thank you @oprah for tonight WOW! So so chic in custom Siriano giving a very powerful speech at the #DNC 💜💜💜.”
And although her suit was the perfect mix of blue and red for her big speech, this is far from the first time Oprah has worn the shade.
She wore a parade of plum, lavender and violet looks while promoting “The Color Purple” last year, rocking everything from a sequined Dolce & Gabbana gown to a polished pastel trouser suit.
Something tells us this isn’t the last purple moment we’ll see from Winfrey.
