Demi Lovato’s hairstylist spills all the details on her new pixie haircut

Demi Lovato is reinventing herself this year.

The pop star, 28, revealed a daring new look last week when she shaved most of her head and debuted a blond pixie haircut.

“I did a thing…,” she captioned the shocking photos. The dramatic ‘do was executed by Lovato’s longtime hairstylist Amber Maynard Bolt, who told Page Six Style that the fresh cut is indicative of a new Lovato.

“There is something about changing your hair so drastically that allows you to own yourself in a way you never thought!” she told us exclusively. “I’ve been doing Demi’s color for almost 10 years now, so I’m no stranger to change with her! This is biggest yet. She is one of those rare individuals who can pull off almost any look.”

Bolt told us Lovato was “her own inspiration.”

“This look was a direct reflection of who she is and how she feels,” she explained.

The hairstylist had to err on the side of caution while lightening up Lovato’s dark locks, working over a two-day process and using Alfaparf’s BB 7 bleach and Pureology Strength Cure Blonde Shampoo ($31) to cut through the layers of color that Demi has been through.

She then used two toners from Alfaparf Colorwear line to help blend her natural dark root into the new brighter ashier ends and finished with a combination of Pureology’s Color Fanatic Color Sealer (professional only) and the Color Fanatic Multi-Tasking Deep Conditioning Mask.

Lovato has tried many lengths and styles of hair, including blue, blond, pink, green, black, purple, green and more. She recently even switched from brown to blond in the middle of hosting E!’s People’s Choice Awards and joked about how she’s coped with the coronavirus pandemic, making fun of her engagement and breakup with Max Ehrich.

Clearly, Lovato is a beauty chameleon who can pull off any hairstyle — no matter the color or length.
