President Obama has joined the music website Spotify and, to celebrate, has posted an official 2012 campaign playlist.
“A little Wilco, a bit of No Doubt,” wrote Obama on his Twitter account. “Check out what else made it onto the new official #Obama2012 campaign playlist.”
SPOTIFY GETTING STATIC FROM SOME TOP MUSIC ACTS
While Obama highlighted the newer, more rock-n-roll acts appearing on the playlist in his Twitter message, country is also highly represented in his picks. Sugarland, Dierks Bentley and the Zac Brown all had songs selected by the president. Classic acts like U2, REO Speedwagon, and James Taylor also get their moments.
But the mainstay of the playlist is soul, including tunes from Aretha Franklin and Booker T & the M.G.’s.
And of course the president selected the track “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green, which he sang during a fundraising event in Harlem recently.
“He nailed it,” Green told TMZ after the president’s performance.
