Dr Samia Kamal is a National Teaching Fellow, awarded to individuals who have made an outstanding impact on student outcomes and the teaching profession. Samia has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to helping all her learners reach their full potential. She has been recognised on a national level for her work and impact across the Institution to inspire and influence her colleagues.

Samia in her role as Principal Lecturer for Student Experience is committed to exploring learning and teaching strategies suited to her discipline of Computer Science. Her championing of Computer Science pedagogy has helped to transform students’ experiences at Oxford Brookes University, especially women in STEM subjects, through her proactivism and advocacy for underrepresented groups.

Samia is also an Enterprise Education Fellow, where she leads enterprise and entrepreneurship education practices within the curriculum with appropriate adaptations for different disciplines, which provides an integrated approach to entrepreneurship, research, and enterprise within the curriculum and as part of our students’ broader development.

Tereza Malacova

Tereza has a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford and an MSc in Data Analytics from Oxford Brookes University, which became the first step in her transition from humanities to STEM. Following the completion of her Masters Degree, she began teaching at Oxford Brookes in an Associate Lecturer role last year and has newly become a Senior Lecturer in Computing.

Tereza also has experience in 1-on-1 teaching as she has supervised a number of EPQ students, supporting their first steps into the world of research. Her own research interests tend to combine computer science and the humanities, considering issues of ethics, economics, or politics within computing applications. Her research is currently focused on sentiment analysis of newspaper headlines of articles concerning Ukraine, and analysing the resulting sentiments. She has previously explored racial biases in AI and hopes to continue engaging with issues of diversity and inclusion in the future.
