Join Campus Climate Action Corps, the first nationwide AmeriCorps program solely dedicated to campus-led, community-based partnerships to address climate change! Weber State University’s Sustainability Practices and Research Center (SPARC) has joined forces with Campus Compact and AmeriCorps.
*We seek two energized and passionate leaders to become Minimum-time (300-hour) AmeriCorps members who will serve as Climate Action Energizers at Weber State University.
* * Are you ready to answer the urgent call to address climate change? * Are you committed to advancing climate justice for all communities? * Are you looking for on-the-ground experience in applied environmental education and action? CCAC Climate Action Energizers will work closely with CCAC staff, their host site supervisor, their AmeriCorps team leader, other AmeriCorps members, community partners, and campus staff and students to research and develop materials to support programming for SPARC’s forthcoming Sustainable Living Demonstration Home (SLDH).
The SLDH will be a place where residents can tour a net-zero, fully electrified, and energy efficient home, and learn what technology, incentives and pathways can empower them to take climate action at home, and in their landscapes.
CCAC Climate Action Energizers will also help to identify and build campus and community partnerships to provide community environmental education, and identify ways to improve at-risk ecosystems for underserved households and communities.
*Position Responsibilities:* * Assist in the planning and facilitation of an environmental education event(s) in underserved communities to provide strategies for reducing energy use, carbon emissions and to cut utility costs * Develop and disseminate outreach materials * Research resources and supplies to support the SLDH as a means to highlight individual energy costs, conservation and efficiency strategies, and access home energy assistance programs, as well as CCAC opportunities * Assist in planning a community-driven project that improves a local at-risk ecosystem (e.
g.
removal of invasive species, tree planting, installation of rain gardens) * Collaborate with team lead to conduct basic home energy assessments in households and/or campus dorms * Provide participants with energy conservation strategies and resources that reduce carbon emissions and increase cost savings; and implement low-tech interventions to reduce energy use (e.
g.
weatherization, LED light bulbs) * Serve as a home energy navigator, educating community on government home energy assistance programs * Participate in specialized green job career development *Term of Service: The anticipated start date is February, 2024.
Members will have no later than July 31, 2024 to complete their hours, but can be completed as early as the end of Spring Semester 2024.
As Minimum-time AmeriCorps members, CCAC Climate Action Energizers must complete 300 hours during the service term.
The number of hours per week served depends on the start and end dates.

*Minimum Qualifications: * * Must be at least 17 years old * Must hold one of the following citizenship statuses: U.
S.
Citizen, National, or Lawful Permanent Resident * Must be located in or willing to relocate to the host site area * Must pass a national service criminal history check * High school diploma or equivalent is required * Valid driver’s license and car, and/or dependable transportation * Must have a personal commitment to climate action and environmental stewardship * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills *Preferred Qualifications:* * Current student attending Weber State University * Experience with community outreach and/or community education * Experience or knowledge of environmental education, environmental stewardship, sustainability, or home energy efficiency *Benefits:* As Minimum-time AmeriCorps members completing 300 hours of service, Climate Action Energizers will receive a *Segal Education Award of $1,459.
26 *The Segal Education Award is contingent upon the successful completion of the 300-hour program and can be used to pay for college or technical school or to pay back qualified student loans.
