Molly Slavey
College: Northern Kentucky University
Major: Elementary Education
High School: Reading High School
Year of Scholarship: 2018
Congratulations to our 2018 OAB Kids Scholarship recipient, Molly Slavey! A graduate of Reading High School, Molly plans to attend Northern Kentucky University in the fall of 2018 to begin her academic journey studying elementary education. Her father, Dwayne Slavey, is a videographer and photographer at WCPO, Cincinnati.
“Because of my father’s job, I have learned to be cautious of the decisions I choose to make in public. I have learned to cherish the moments I have with my loved ones,” says Molly. “My dad has put hours into his career, and with each live shot, a new lesson is passed down. Without my dad’s career, these lessons may not have had as clear of a meaning to me and my family.”
Molly graduated with a 4.6 weighted-GPA, finished third in her class, and was involved in many activities during her time at Reading High School. Some of those activities included National Honors Society, varsity soccer, the school newspaper and Key Club. She has also been involved in many community groups, including Night for the Fight, recreational soccer and volunteering with the high school and the City of Reading.
Molly has wanted to go into the education field since first grade. She found her passion for working with children through babysitting, mentoring and volunteering at preschools and at church. She wants to give back to students like the Reading administration has done for her.
“I want to wake up in the morning knowing I am making a difference in the lives of children, their parents and the community,” Molly stated.
This scholarship will help Molly further her education so she can educate others. In 10 years, she imagines herself working full-time as a teacher with a family of her own.
