A graduate of Lexington High School, Grant plans to attend Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in the fall of 2017. His major will be in business management and leadership. His mother, Margery Tasseff, is the general manager of iHeartRadio Ashland-Mansfield, a six-station cluster.
“I’ve been able to see first-hand how the business side of radio works,” said Grant. “Like many companies, people only see the end product, but having my mom in a leadership position has given me a unique view on what it takes to make a business run successfully.”
Grant graduated with a 4.2 weighted-GPA and was involved in many activities during his time at Lexington High School, some of which included honor roll, National Honors Society, soccer, track, concert and jazz band, and working as the political editor of the Lexington High School Newspaper. He has also been involved in many community groups, including serving as vice president of Key Club, volunteering at the Mansfield/ Richland County Library, and serving in the youth group at First Congregational.
While taking a Government AP class, Grant was able to participate in the campaign-side of a mock election. Grant was invigorated by it all. Discovering what made certain people click and what swayed voters was fascinating to research for him.
“I ultimately want to work in marketing. There is a creativity and energy to it, and working on the campaign helped me see appealing to consumers is more complex than just selling,” Grant said. “I found the research, strategy and execution appeals to me. My education will be a solid start in the business world.”
This scholarship will help Grant further his degree to reach this goal of ultimately manage the marketing efforts of a Fortune 500 business.

Why is this scholarship so important to your future?
This scholarship is important to my future as it will help finance my college education.
What are your plans for the summer?
This summer, I will be working the night-shift at a local warehouse, and hopefully playing soccer, writing and reading.
What is the best piece of advice given to you?
It’s better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it.
About the Ohio Broadcasters Foundation
The Ohio Broadcasters Foundation is the educational foundation affiliated with the Ohio Association of Broadcasters, the not-for-profit trade association of radio and television stations in Ohio. The OAB Kids Scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating high school senior planning to attend college next year whose parent is employed by an OAB member station.
