What are the best practices for creating a diverse and inclusive IT workforce?
Creating a diverse and inclusive IT workforce involves several best practices including encouraging open communication and creating an environment where diverse perspectives are valued. Additionally, I believe it is important to understand the challenges currently faced by IT employees. These challenges encompass high workload issues as well as other obstacles encountered by underrepresented groups, such as women in IT. They lack growth opportunities and often find it hard to assimilate. Hence, it is important to engage with your IT employees on a regular basis to understand their concerns and tailor initiatives that promote a more inclusive workplace for everyone.

How can your organization's diversity and inclusion initiatives be more effective?
Assessing the current situation is crucial. Without this step, we could be overlooking some valuable insights. I consistently advise organisations to gather their employees' perceptions of the work culture, which is the initial phase of our 3A model—Ask. To achieve this, we can utilise methods such as conducting surveys, followed by in-depth focus group discussions. This approach offers a comprehensive understanding of the current situation. Thereafter, we can develop an action plan to steer us towards the desired future outcomes.
