My interdisciplinary PhD research highlighted how the movement practices of the Japanese martial art of Aikidō can facilitate leadership development for co-creation. Co-creation is a specific collaborative event shared by two or more people at any stage in a design process where ideas and experiences are exchanged to create something not known in advance. Co-creation is a specific collaborative event shared by two or more people at any stage in a design process where ideas and experiences are exchanged to create something not known in advance. The ethnographic research generated a unique conceptual framework called BeWeDō®. BeWeDō® is an interactive experience designed to develop the relational leadership skills required to generate co-creative possibilities within social innovation projects at the pre-design and discovery phases of the design development process. My research is the first to investigate how Aikidō movement practices can facilitate leadership development for co-creation and the role of emplacement for transforming co-creative possibilities.

My MFA 'The Contradictory Real' explored contemporary & conceptual artists utilisation of the sociopolitical experience of city space, and Foucault's notion of the human subject and the political in the context of power relations and social networks. My MFA 'The Contradictory Real' explored contemporary & conceptual artists utilisation of the sociopolitical experience of city space, and Foucault's notion of the human subject and the political in the context of power relations and social networks. For Foucault, knowledge is power when it is socially legitimised and institutional. His concept of "power-knowledge" – primarily using language – shows how power and knowledge not only depend upon one another but actually produce each other. My proposal was that art can illuminate power as something found within the texture of our lives – as something we 'live' rather than 'have'.

(2017) Kevin Cartwright, 'From the Television' (co-supervisor A. Noble). The final thesis is presented as an immersive digital video installation that seeks to draw the viewer into the dreamlike world of the televisual. Images derived from iterative practice-based works create metaphorical foci for sociocultural archetypes and a politic of the personal. Drawn from a biographical context and primarily relying on the visual icon of the balloon, the work tests the viewer's relation to the realm of the digital screen, and offers an alternative vision for a mass media of the individual.

(2017) Damin Scott, 'RESIDING NOMADISM: A narrative of Nomadic definition' (co-supervisors R. Ortega Ayala and S. Morris). The thesis explored how to define the “Nomad” (exploring the vast range of the terms identity and behaviour traits with a focusing understanding towards a contemporary, and forecasted scope). The final thesis wielded these perspectives within the artist's current practice field of public wall painting to challenge the boundary of static and mobile within geography and site specific.

(2004) Euan Robertson, 'And the men marched away.' The thesis explores iconographic masculine codes and from a New Zealand perspective. It examines what constructs existing pre and post the Great War and how they wove a common thread through the society structures and became a commentary of how New Zealand men enacted their masculinity both nationally and internationally.

(2017) Monish Patel, 'NZSO experiments: Bringing the NZSO to millennials' (co-supervisor J. Bailey). The thesis investigated new ways that the NZSO can create and maintain connections with the millennial audience. The research provided a framework for exploring engagement and interaction between the NZSO and millennials. NZSO:experiments is an interactive experience which intrigues, attracts, and engages an audience while fostering new connections with millennials through the use of already familiar social spaces.

(2014) Eric Thompson, 'Clear Method Cards' (co-supervisor R. Parkhurst). The thesis investigated the development of a co-creative public/community design process facilitated by a bespoke ‘toolkit.’ The toolkit was affordable, flexible, inclusive and replicable, as well as one that provoked discussion around the social and economic impact of place branding in order to respond to the diverse nature of local communities.

(2012) Anna Brown, 'The endless book — exploring the online, offline' (co-supervisor C. Bennewith). First class pass with distinction.

(2010) Luke Pittar, 'To what extent can co-creative sketching enable specific audiences to influence their experience of a location?' (co-supervisor A. Thomassen). The final project – Pow Pow Pow: Public Prototyping – won a Bronze, Best Award 2010).
