Last week Patrick Mendes and Keita (Tupu Toa Intern) had the privilege of attending the launch of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Nurture the Future Within campaign, a public health initiative designed to educate whānau about the risks of alcohol consumption during pregnancy. The campaign delivers a simple and essential health message: there is no safe level of alcohol consumption during pregnancy. Everyone has a role to play in supporting alcohol-free pregnancies, from friends and family to community leaders and organisations. Find out more about the Nurture the Future Within campaign below. If you or someone you know needs help with alcohol, reach out to the Alcohol Drug Helpline on 0800 787 797 or text 8681 for free support.

Auckland City Mission - Te Tāpui Atawhai has been campaigning to support families in need this Christmas by calling upon the community to donate food and gifts, so those less fortunate can have something under the tree or on the dining table for them to enjoy. At ProCare, we've been doing our bit to help! Recently, we've donated non-perishable food, toys, games, and other items to support the Auckland Angel's mission. It's not too late to support the cause – every bit helps. If you would like to donate items or funds, or want to find out more about the campaign, you can check out the Auckland City Mission website. https://lnkd.in/gQeR-nwP #AucklandAngels #AucklandCityMission

As general practices gear up to take some well-deserved and needed time off over the Christmas period, we are thrilled to provide funding for subsidised virtual GP appointments via CareHQ to ensure that our patients maintain access to more affordable healthcare over summer. Bindi Norwell, Group Chief Executive at ProCare says: “By investing in virtual consultations via CareHQ, we are looking to not only alleviate pressure on in-person clinics but also provide affordable, accessible care for our communities at a time when they need it most. This virtual option to book a CareHQ GP through their practice portal or via the CareHQ website will also allow a lot of flexibility for patients, who can access CareHQ even if they are on holiday in other parts of New Zealand.” Funding is available for practices within the ProCare Network from Monday 16 December 2024 until Sunday 19 January 2025, subject to demand. Cases of whooping cough have been increasing in our community, and it's important that we all take precautions to protect ourselves and our whānau. One of the best things you can do to protect your pēpi is to get immunised or receive a booster shot while pregnant, and encourage your whānau around you to do the same. It's perfectly safe to get this immunisation while pregnant - your immunity will pass to your baby and protect them after they are born, keeping them safe until they are old enough to have their own immunisations. To get immunised, book an appointment through your usual healthcare provider or check out the Health NZ website for more options https://lnkd.in/gYFbr-KK More information about whooping cough and what to do if you get it can be found here https://lnkd.in/gw_AtYXR #health #whoopingcough #wellbeing #immunisation #whānau

Recently members of our Equity Team – Mihi Blair, Patrick Mendes, and TupuToa intern Keita Koroheke – attended the Hapai Te Hauora Symposium at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa in Wellington. Health experts, iwi, and community leaders came together to discuss strategies and innovations for improving Māori wellbeing. The kaupapa centred around the whakaaro ''Oranga Whenua, Oranga Tangata” - acknowledging the interconnected relationship between the health of our whenua and the wellbeing and happiness of our people. It presented a fantastic opportunity to discuss the positive impact of Māori-led health campaigns, the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the power of haka and moko in strengthening Māori identity and wellbeing. Partnership and connection is something we already take seriously at ProCare, but it was great to get some new ideas for how we can support Māori health and wellbeing going forward. #health #wellbeing

Responding to community needs and not being afraid to try something new has achieved fantastic results for the community thanks to the team at Tuakau Health Centre. Sharing their ideas and success so others can benefit from this knowledge is also part of the journey, which is why the team was delighted to tell the Australasian College of Paramedicine about their Kidz Clinic initiative. This all resulted from Tuakau Health Centre taking a leap of faith and employing an ECP as part of the Comprehensive Primary and Community Care Teams (CPCT) programme. This sought to introduce a range of funded roles in general practices to improve efficiency and access to care. Check out the story below. #CPCT #community #health #generalpractice

Recognising and supporting the next generation of nurses is one way we are encouraging and helping students in their transition to the workforce. 🎓We were thrilled to attend the Manukau Institute of Technology Māori Graduation Ceremony to present the ProCare Top Māori Nurse Award. 🏆Congratulations to Autymn and Keriana who completed their Bachelor of Nursing Māori and were presented their award by one of our Ara Hauora Nurses. #nursing #graduation #health #workforcedevelopment

We had an inspiring and engaging day at the Hauora Event at Te Aroha Pā, Araparera on Sunday. Supporting Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, the Ara Hauora team provided gout tests and mana-enhancing education to whānau in the area. It was a great opportunity for whānau to explore various hauora (health) services and learn valuable proactive tips on how to live long, healthy lives. This event was a testament to collaborating and working together with partners to support their community! #community #health #whānau

Cases of whooping cough have been on the rise lately, and it's important to ensure that you and your whānau - especially babies and toddlers - are protected during this time of increased risk. Whooping cough is extremely contagious, and can cause breathing difficulties and severe coughing fits. It's particularly dangerous for babies - especially those who are too young to be vaccinated. The best protection against whooping cough is to get immunised. This can help stop the spread of the illness and better protect our pēpi from being exposed! We can also protect other vulnerable groups, including pregnant people, tamariki, and older adults. To get vaccinated or book in a booster, make an appointment through your usual healthcare provider or check out the Health NZ website for more options https://lnkd.in/gYFbr-KK.
