Rugby has the ability to bring communities together to achieve great things. Te Hāpai Community Impact Award regonises an incredible person from a Provincial Union, community rugby club, organisation, school, iwi or Super Rugby club that has significantly impacted their community. In 2024, Erin Rayner from Sense Rugby NZ received the award for her mahi in the occupational therapy led rugby program designed to help tamariki and rangatahi participate in active recreation and sport 🖤 #ASBRugbyAwards

Kua hinga te totara haemata, te totara whakamarumaru o te wao nui a Tane. Kua kore ngā manu e rere. Kua ngū te ngāhere. Mōu te take, Matua Luke. Aue, aue, aue taukiri e! The towering Totara tree, the sheltering giant has fallen. The forest has gone silent, no birds are flying. We are all in mourning for you, Matua Luke Crawford. Farewell our friend, mentor, our Matua. New Zealand Rugby, the New Zealand Māori Rugby Board and the entire rugby community are mourning the passing of Luke Mikaire Crawford (Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Ngāti Porou and Ngāti Toa via his ancestor, Puhiwahine). Our thoughts are with Luke’s whānau, and we thank them for sharing so much of him with rugby. He leaves an amazing legacy in our game 🖤 See our full statement and comment from NZR Chair Dame Patsy Reddy, NZR CEO Mark Robinson and New Zealand Māori Rugby Board Chair Dame Professor Farah Palmer on our website: https://bit.ly/3Df9aVK

That's a wrap on the 2024 ASB Bank Rugby Awards 🎬 We celebrated the very best of the game we all love – from your local club, Provincial pride, all the way through to our Teams in Black. It's been a big year for all involved in rugby. Jorja Miller has received the prestigious Kelvin R Tremain Memorial Player of the Year title. Jorja is the second-youngest recipient of the Player of the Year going in its 30-year history (behind Jonah Lomu), another piece of history after becoming New Zealand’s youngest female gold medallist at the Paris Olympics earlier this year. NZR CEO Mark Robinson said: “Congratulations to all the winners and nominees this year. “There is no doubt the gold medal at the Olympics for the Black Ferns Sevens at the Olympics was a real highlight, so the recognition for Jorja, Cory and the team is thoroughly deserved this evening. “We had a great year in the community game, with growth across the board in registrations. Seeing the stories of some of our game’s unsung heroes tonight really highlights the heart of rugby.” From all of us here at NZR, congratulations to all the athletes, volunteers, coaches, referees, team management, support staff, and communities who received an award tonight 🖤 Read more ➡️ https://lnkd.in/g3Fe_js2 #ASBRugbyAwards
