🎉The Canterbury Radar is back online! 🎉 After undergoing replacement, the highly anticipated Canterbury weather radar is up and running – and it’s better than ever! 🌦️ With new technology and enhanced capabilities, this new radar will provide improved services for the Canterbury region. Part of the project saw the demolition of the 30-year-old radar and its concrete tower, making way for a robust 19 metre steel tower that now supports the new radar. This upgrade is a part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening New Zealand's weather radar network, funded through our contract with Ministry of Transport (New Zealand) - Te Manatū Waka. Using the latest dual-polarisation technology, the new radar can now distinguish between rain, hail, and snow – which helps our meteorologists to provide you with accurate weather information for better planning and safety.
