Congratulations once again to the Deloitte Top 200 most improved performance award winner 2024 – The a2 Milk Company. When their business was severely impacted by COVID disruptions, the team worked even harder. Today, a2 have reached a top 5 position in China’s infant formula market, are the top milk brand in Australia and one of the fastest growing premium milk brands in the US. BusinessNZ is proud to sponsor the most improved performance award and loves to hear great success stories in business just like a2’s. Congratulations to all finalists including Compass Group and GPC Asia Pacific, who should also be recognised for outstanding change in business performance in 2024.

☝ NZ’s tax as a percentage of GDP is 33% (close to OECD average of 34%) ✌ We have the fourth highest company income tax rate in the OECD. 👌 Australia's avg superannuation contribution rate is 11.5% - ours is 6% Did you know that by 2050, 100% of NZ's current tax take will need to be spent on superannuation and healthcare alone? Our aging population and trouble maintaining a young, taxpaying workforce is an aspect of the economy that needs to be discussed. How does New Zealand plan on maintaining first-world living standards and sustaining its reputation as a great place to live? Take a read of my latest opinion piece below - and share your thoughts on NZ's tax future in the comments. The BusinessNZ Policy Team publishes a Planning Forecast Report which is a quarterly snapshot of how the New Zealand economy is doing and what our global prospects are. It's such a valuable summary to help businesses (large and small), investors and other interested readers with their planning for 2025. While there are improved levels of business confidence, challenges remain for some time. #marketinsights #newzealandeconomy

The BusinessNZ Award for Most Improved Company at the Deloitte Top 200 Awards last night went to The a2 Milk Company. I was delighted that David Bortolussi accepted the award on behalf of A2 and to meet chair Pip Greenwood for reasons over and above the recognition of their achievements. My father Dr Jock Allison, who passed away this year, served on the A2 Board 2003-2010, but well before that provided the early scientific advice on the merits of A2 milk when Dunedin entrepreneur Howard Paterson first considered the opportunity. The company has come a long way since then. Congratulations A2 team, and thank you to Mike Horne and the team of Deloitte New Zealand team for this celebration of New Zealand business. Great to attend with Deputy CEO Phil Love, EMA boss John Fraser-Mackenzie, Gretchen Weightman, Cushla Smyth, Charles Ma, Rohit Anand, Kelly Newton for joining BusinessNZ for the evening. fyi Amy Allison, Hilary Allison, Chante Mueller

My latest opinion piece in The Post for Stuff newspapers on why a bipartisan “bridge” between parties to ensure a long term approach to infrastructure investment for NZ is critical for the next generation of Kiwis. It’s not a pipe dream. Parliament achieves this for trade and foreign affairs, we can do it for infrastructure. Nick Leggett and his team have led the way on this issue for years. https://lnkd.in/guhB4syT BusinessNZ backs the advocacy work of Infrastructure New Zealand on this matter 100%. Thank you for the opportunity to submit Geoff Collett and Tracy Watkins!

After three consecutive months of improving conditions, the Performance of Manufacturing Index (PMI) fell from 47.0 to 45.8 in October. Despite lower interest rates, the manufacturing sector continues to face significant headwinds. Recent business surveys have shown a sharp contrast between improved expectations for activity and weak current conditions. The BNZ – BusinessNZ PMI is a monthly survey of the manufacturing sector providing an early indicator of activity levels. A PMI reading above 50 points indicates manufacturing activity is expanding; below 50 indicates it is contracting.
