Cyndi Lauper’s son Declyn pleads guilty in stolen vehicle case
Cyndi Lauper’s rapper son copped a plea deal in Manhattan Criminal Court on Tuesday — avoiding jail time after he was busted with a stolen Mercedes outside a hip hop friend’s memorial over the summer.
Declyn “Dex” Lauper, 24, was ordered to complete five days of private community service and stay out of trouble for one year after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct in the July 14 case.
Lauper — the son of the legendary “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” singer and actor David Thornton — could have landed in jail for up to a year if convicted of the original charges he faced.
“It’s definitely a blessing the case is over,” he told The Post as he left the courtroom accompanied by his dad.
Lauper had just attended a memorial service for Ethan Reyes — a 14-year-old aspiring rapper who was stabbed to death in a brawl with a 15-year-old boy on July 9 — when he was busted in the idling car on West 140th Street and Broadway, according to court papers.
At the time, he told police he was simply sitting in someone else’s double-parked 2014 Mercedes Benz, which turned out to have been stolen.
“You probably know who I am,” he allegedly told cops, according to prosecutors.
Lauper was hit with a desk appearance ticket for unauthorized use of a vehicle in the third degree and criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree.
On Tuesday, the aspiring musician, who was decked out all in black, bragged to The Post that, “Me and my mother have a couple of songs that we recorded.”
He’s the only child of the Grammy-winning artist and her husband of more than 30 years.
