Thinking about getting a rabbit for Easter this year? Think again.
1 Properly cared for bunnies can live 10+ years
2 Their diet is mostly hay which many people are allergic to
3 Bunnies should be kept indoors in a large space like an X pen or bunny proof room.
Rabbits do not belong in hutches or cages.
4 Keeping rabbits outside is bad idea
5 Both male and female bunnies need to be fixed to prevent spraying and behavioral issues
6 Taking care of bunnies is very expensive.
Hay, fresh veggies, toys, rabbit proofing supplies, vet bills all add up.
7 Bunnies do not act like cats or dogs.
They are prey animals so most don’t like to picked up and cuddled.
9 They do best in at least pairs.
Even with lots of human interaction rabbits can become depressed by themselves.
It’s best to get at least 2.
Remember to get 2 of the same gender if they’re not fixed.
8 Want your kids to take care of the rabbits? Think again.
Most kids lose interest in pets very quick even after begging for them.
Rabbits require several hours of care everyday of cleaning out their litter box and space, feeding/watering, grooming and interacting.
These tasks often fall onto the adult after kids get bored of their new pet.
10 There’s already so many people trying to rehome their unwanted rabbits.
If you do choose to bring in a new family member always check with rescues and individuals rehoming instead of a breeder.
Rabbits are the 3rd most common rehomed pet after dogs and cats.
