💡 A study in 2022 found that the growing feminisation of agriculture in Nepal was driven by male out-migration. But this comes at a cost 👩🌾 As a large number of women engage in agriculture for their livelihood, they face heightened vulnerability to unsafe chemical use. It is critical to prioritise women farmers' safety and health by promoting mass awareness, implementing supportive policies, and adopting safe food production as a national agriculture standard 🌽 Read more about vulnerabilities that Nepali women farmers face in this insightful article by our 2024 Media Fellow Indira Aryal ⬇️ Link: https://lnkd.in/gAzUiKp6 #feminisation #agriculture #women #farmers Menila Kharel Dev Datta Bhatta Santosh Adhikari Deepak Adhikari

An international development organisation putting ingenious ideas to work so people in poverty can change their world.
About us
Our Vision is a world that works better for everyone. Practical Action is an international development organisation putting ingenious ideas to work so people in poverty can change their world. We help people find solutions to some of the world’s toughest problems. Challenges made worse by catastrophic climate change and persistent gender inequality. We work with communities to develop ingenious, lasting, and locally owned solutions for agriculture, water and waste management, climate resilience and clean energy. And we share what works with others, so answers that start small can grow big. We’re a global change-making group. The group consists of a UK registered charity with community projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America, an independent development publishing company and a technical consulting service. We combine these specialisms to multiply our impact and help shape a world that works better for everyone. We believe in the power of small things to change the big picture. And that together we can take practical action to build futures free from poverty. In Nepal, Practical Action is focused on putting ingenious ideas to work to contribute to poverty reduction and sustainable wellbeing for all through our works on three thematic areas: Energy that transforms, Resilience that protects, and Farming that works.

🌍 Our vision is for a world that works better for everyone, but too often the voices of marginalised people are missing. This ✨ International Day of Persons with Disabilities ✨ , we celebrate the leadership of persons with disabilities in a small village in Dang who have formed a disability network and are advocating for their rights. We are happy to be a small part of their journey and stand in solidarity. Through the SAMUNNATI Agriculture project, we are working with more than 500 persons with disabilities in Dang, Rolpa and Rukum East districts focusing on enterprise development, skill-building, disability network formation and mobilisation, etc. Here’s to an inclusive and sustainable future! Violence against women and girls is unacceptable. NO EXCUSE. At Practical Action, we stand for equality, dignity, and safety for all. Together, we must challenge harmful norms, empower women and girls to thrive, and create systems that uphold their rights. Safety and dignity are not privileges—they are fundamental rights. Do you know about the CRMC tool? 💡 Last week, Practical Action in Nepal completed a 4-day training on the "Climate Resilience Measurement for Communities (CRMC)” for project staff and enumerators. This tool helps communities to evaluate and measure how resilient they are to climate hazards. Using the results, they can identify and implement resilience-building interventions and run additional measurements to track improvements. The CRMC tool is grounded in the 5C-4R framework: ⭐ 5C: Represents five complementary ‘capitals’—social, human, natural, physical, and financial—which are the pillars of resilience-building. ⭐ 4R: Refers to properties derived from resilient system-thinking, focusing on robustness, redundancy, resourcefulness, and rapidity. In the training, enumerators were trained on CRMC Concepts, Principles, Glossary, using CRMC Mobile App, and survey ethics ✍ Through this training, our teams are now equipped with the knowledge and tools to collect meaningful data, assess climate risks, and implement targeted resilience strategies in their respective communities 👩🌾 Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance Bikram Rana-CSPM(IAPM) Ramesh Gautam Chakra Bam Suman Chapagain

“Self-defence isn’t only about fighting. It’s more about having situational awareness, confidence and most importantly practice.” 🥊 With the start of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, Practical Action in Nepal organised a self-defence session for its women staffs. This empowering event equipped participants with essential skills and confidence to protect themselves in difficult situations. As an organisation, we condemn any forms of violence against women and gender inequality that drives such instances. We are committed to addressing ingrained gender and social norms in the workplace and the communities we work with.
